I couldn't stand having a fake. Not because it's most likely a Squire, but the fact it is pretending to be a true Fender. So what did I do? I bought 2007 American Series Strat for $250! The dude also threw in a Turbo Distortion DS-2 pedal, 10ft. cable, 3 packs of Super Slinkys, and a hardshell case for no extra charge. And thanks to the help from you guys, it was easier to tell it's authenticity.

Thats fine, he's put 2 humbuckers in it and changed the scratchplate but the neck, tuners and trem look fine.

I bought it from someone here in Korea for $160 and he bought it here new for $250. The condition is pretty mint, with a little use and a small paint chip where a belt buckle would hit while playing.

If you bought it in Korea, its a fake. I lived there 15 years ago. They do not obey copyright laws. I actually bought a fake Squire there way back then. Biggest give way after the fact was the pickup covers were solid, no exposed pole pieces... Live and learn. No one can buy an American Strat for less the $500 if its in playable condition.... You have a great, cheap, Strat copy... Hopefully its of sound construction like many Korean made guitars are...

I'm guessing you are referring to my previous guitar....if so, I pretty much made that determination. As far as this one, it was bought back in the states 3 years ago.

DABrault,

I lived in Korea for about a year wile I was in the Army. I bought a "knock-off" Fender there while stationed there. I knew it was a knockoff. I even pointed out the descrepancies to the shop owner. I talked the guy down to $100 UDS for it and and 3 sets of strings. I played the crap out of it until I got back home. I even brought it back with me when my tour was over.

My wife pawned it a couple times and got $200 bucks for it each time. The 3rd time she pawned it, she lost it. I was a little pissed, but in the end I was up $100 for the mistake. By the time I got to the pawn shop to let them know the deal, they had already sold it to a kid for $300. I felt bad, but what can you do. I could not get the kid's name or number to correct the mistake. I hope he or she liked it.
