i bought a mexican strat. it's came with American Deluxe Strat Bridge (as opposed to the vintage) and stock tex mex pickups. it's got an amber satin finish and a rosewood fretboard. standard tuners, serial number begins in MZ0 (2000-2001). any thoughts on what this guitar is? it's not a standard mexican because of the tex mex pickups, (and different bridge?), but what else would it be?

I ran into a similar question recently and with the helpful group that hang here I was able to realize that I was confussed as to what pick-ups I had, and as it turned out that what I thought was some cool freaky axe ended up being a Classic 60's Strat (that I love).

Anyway I suggest that you double check yourself regarding the American Deluxe Strat Bridge (as opposed to the vintage) you will know for sure because the Fender Deluxe 2-Point Synchronized Tremolo with Pop in Arm would differ from the vintage in that the vintage arm scews in.

I hope that this is some help. :)

also, the easiest way to tell a vintage bridge from an american is the fact that the vintage has 6 screws attaching it to the body, while the american has 2.

i'm fairly sure its an american bridge..not the vintage. it's just odd that it had such nice pickups/hardware for being a mexican strat.

perhaps the guitar was a dealer part guitar. sometimes dealers mix and match parts on guitars to make new ones that they can sell, usually to get higher prices. sometimes it sucks, cause you may not get the parts you want. but sometimes, you can get a better parts for less price.

i talked to one dealer the other day who was planning on having a bunch of the highway one strats and tele's that they had in their shop relic'd. the plan was to be able to sell relic guitars, that are oh so popular, for a cheaper price, and to be able to say that they were the only shop with those guitars.

I love my mex. Shes a work horse. Looks, sounds and plays great. The next strat I buy, yeah it'll probably be an american like my first, will it be worth the xtra many hundred bucks difference. I dunno. Its been alot of years between that one and this'un with tele's in between. It all comes down to play and sound, doesn't it?
