Personally I like wide straps, usually 3 1/2 to 4 inches wide. There are several companies that make decent wide straps.

Hate to sound like a brand loyalist, but amongst my loads of straps I have more of these (in different colors) than anything else:

http://www.fender.com/products/search.p ... 0990683000

I find they have just the balance of slip/non-slip on the shoulder that I like. A very slidy strap that won't stay put is annoying - but then so are those suede ones that have too much friction when you want to just shift the angle of the guitar up or down a bit.

Who'd have thunk there was so much to it?

Cheers - C

Any strap that has sufficient padding and can hold your guitar safely should do the trick. As Chet said wide straps provide great comfort as they distribute the weight over a larger area reducing fatigue.A strap with locking mechanism to prevent your guitar from slipping out and falling to the floor is also a good choice.

One of the first things that any new guitar in my house gets is a set of Schaller Straplocks!

I really like the strap that Ceri talks about... The one that came with my Strat feels great. :)

They're reasonably priced too.

This is what I use. It's very comfortable and well padded.

Here's an extremely comfortable top grain leather strap for just $35 bucks made by Onori sold at Elderly. Comes in brown or black. It's got a sheepskin covered movable shoulder pad so the actual strap is not wide but stylishly narrower than most. Looks good and is really super comfortable. Get one ... you won't regret it.
