Hi, the guitar looks like it it a metallic and Taos Turquoise is a solid color.
Image Image
It is a bit hard to make out the exact color as sometimes the camera will teak it some due to the type of light you are shooting under. At first I thought it looked like Lake Placid Blue, ( i have owned a couple in that color), but it is too green. Also, some guitars sold as a Plus are really a Plus neck on a different body. I have owned several hundred Plus guitar and have not seen this exact color, but that does not mean it was not sold by Fender as a Plus. I ran across a odd Burgundy Mist Strat Plus that I have in my collection right now.

Here is the guitar in question: Image
This color sure looks close too Fender #66 http://www.fender.com/support/colorchart.php?show=blue&color=66 which is called Lucerne Aqua Firemist.

I have NEVER seen it on a Plus. I would check to see if there is a swimming pool route under the pickguard just to make sure it is a Plus. What is the serial number? Any other pictures? The guitar has aftermarket parts on it, like the saddles and the pickguard, so there is a chance that this could be built from parts. check it out.

I am sorry for being so dull......it was a bit early in the morning here when I answered your post. This color is Caribbean Mist and was offered in the Strat Plus series. Your route is right so I am pretty sure your neck and body are a match from the factory. Here is a sample of this color from my collection:

NICE!! My favourite colour... You dont see too much of them, mine has yellowed slightly which gives a slight undesired overtone which makes it look rather green than a type of turqouise :)

Very nice examples here :D

yeppers, I forgot you have one like these even though you showed picts of it! Duh.... Sometimes the yellowing of the clear coats makes identifying some older fender colors a problem. Make me again wonder about Bahama Green.

Yeah- It depends on the quality of camera, lighting and whether or not you use a flash. It makes a huge difference, for example-

With my cellphone (5mp) no flash:

With my Cybershot camera (6mp) flash:

It makes the world of difference when you use a flash huh.. the top photo has more yellow in it- Perhaps Bahama could be confused with a yellowed Taos... Blue + Yellow= Green- Who knows?

Interesting...to compare your picts. You have seen my website so you have seen the picts. It is really hard to get a camera to truly represent the actual color. I never use flash, but has a sweet spot where I shoot. It has to he morning out and I control the outdoor (natural) lighting with some Venetian blinds in a small window right over our bed. Then I have two incandescent lamps on either side and then a flood of overhead light. Using ASA setting of 200 or sometimes 400 I take a lot of picts and out of them I get a pretty good mix. If it is too late in the day the picts will have a yellow hue, even with white balance set manually. Anyhow, that's my trick....Some people do not realize it, but a god number of those picts were taken with a 3.2 pixel Canon camera sever years back. I have a really nice 12 MP now.....

Hi,

I just found this site last night while researching what my guitar is. I decided to register and join this board.

I bought it for my birthday, used in a downtown music store as a souveneir when I lived in Albuquerque, NM in 1993. I liked it because of the color which went along well with the New Mexico turqoise theme. I think I paid a little over $300 for it. I need to look for the receipt. I have moved a number of times and this has stayed it a case most of its time with me. I only recently took it out and started playing it (I play mostly acoustic blues). What a wonderful instrument. Anyway I figured out it was a Strat Plus a few months ago. The serial number is something like E475756 (not currently in front of me) which makes it an early one. I had been confused about the color though, as I had not seen any listing for turquois associated to this guitar. It did't seem like a surf green or the other listed colors. Well,.. I just saw the listing of one up here that has the pearloid pick guard. Same color.

I am happy to say mine is mint, not a scratch on it. It looks like new. The fretboard is maple, it has two gold Lacey p/us and the bridge p/u is a different color (blue?). It has the original pick guard. Sperzel tuners, rolling block w/whammy bar, attached. Very sweet. It didn't come with a case so I never got the case candy either. But now I am a little afraid to continue playing it, realizing it is a rare bird. Plays great though.

No ... I am not selling it. Just thought I would report that I have one. When I track down my digital camera I will post pictures. I am on vacation next week. At least it will be archived as being in existance.

Hey welcome to the fender Forum! You can get a lot of useful information on here. Maybe what you have is this color? If so it is called Taos Turquoise which, by the way, is very appropriate for being in New Mexico! The E4xxxx serial number indicates it is a late 97 or 88 model. This guitar is one of many listed on my website. Since you have a Strat Plus, you might want to check it out.:

Thank you for your welcome!

I researched your site last night and saw your Taos Turquois Strat Plus! It was comforting to find that I was not crazy to think mine really was Turqois in color in spite of that color seeming to be non existant. As I am somewhat color blind (actually was disqualified from a Navy program because of it) I have been confused about the color all along. I need to find my good digital SLR camera and post pictures for your archives. What is so cool is that mine is such a perfect specimen. Same color as yours, but with the plain white pickguard.

Stay tuned!

- Brian

I look forward to seeing it too :) Xhefri is right, there is a lot you can learn from this site and its members.

I go nutty on 90's Fenders and Strat plus/plus deluxe/ultra models- in fact Id always wanted one for years and years. I decided that I'd get one after reading up on them and looking on xhefris site. I played a Torino Red Plus when I was either 15 or 16, and that was one of the best strats I played. Ive allways wanted one since.

I pulled my plus out tonight, I compared it to the Deluxe with SCN's and to me the Plus just sounds a little more bell like tone wise and it does respond to nuances IMO- the SCN's are a good sound though, just a different pickup altogether with a slightly hotter sound to them :)

Bring back the Laces I say!!! :) They rule!!!

I just fell in love, lol Blue is my favorite color but like any other color there are all different shades. That blue is as beautiful as it gets, I always felt the best paint jobs and finishes Fender ever did on none CS guitars were on the Plus/Ultra series guitars and some of them even rival some custom finishes. That is why Xhefri's collection looks so damn amazing.lol

I have taken some pictures of my Taos Turqouis 1987 Stratocaster Plus. They came our really good. I sent a set to Jeff <xhefri@gmail.com> and maybe he will put them up for me or put them on his site. Else, someone point me to what I have to do. I know my photography and have not been into the digital hobby for a year or so - I think I remember what what photobucket is. Can I upload directly or do I need to upload to another archival site and point to it?

Tnx.

Hey Brian, You have to have a web host for your picts. I have my website so I upload my picts onto my space on my server and then link them to this page. Some people use picture hosting sites like Photo Bucket. I will see if I can resize your picts and post them here later. Really nice Strat Plus!
