In light of the "relic" post, i've noticed anything to do with relicing appears to drum up some pretty strong opinions. this however is not about that,
i was just wondering if anyone had any pictures/examples of what a relic poly guitar looks like. Now i know that poly does't wear like nitro, and im not talking about deliberate relicing, i just mean wear from many years of playing etc. perhaps it's mainly chips and dings?
Im just curious about what kind of wear and tear people are getting from their poly finished guitars.

Cheers, Ray.

I played one at Guitar Center today. The paint comes off in chunks instead wearing off evenly like it does on nitrocellulose. I have a poly finished Peavey bass with chunks taken out of it. I was already a little beaten up when I got it, but the biggest chunk was my fault. The gig bag it's in is paper thin and I must have banged it up against something.

If you want to see a guitar that's been worn that way from use, just look up a picture Jimmie Vaughan's guitars. Not the signature model, I'm talking about the ones he actually plays.

On necks the stuff flakes off in great big chunks once it goes, rather than cellulose that wears through.

His old '62 isn't, but his new signature strats are.

This one is an exact replica of Yngwie Malmsteen's 71, which had a poly finish

The Poly finishes resist "wear" (rubbing off) almost to the point of ridiculosity :D . It even takes a pretty good knock to "ding" them (casual bumps don't generally do damage). My headstocks seem to take the worst abuse, I'm always bonking something with them.

If you bounce your guitar off stages or drop them on the floor (as in "Dude I was doing awesome hair metal guitar spins and my straplock came loose") the finish will chip but that just adds character.

My Beck Strat could stop bullets. I dont know how many times I accidentally banged into something really hard without as much as a scratch.
