I'm looking at sticking into the bridge of my Strat (single coil) a Seymour Duncan JB JR, any opinions on these PUPs? They are suppose to be really cool single coil $@! humbucker PUPs...Opinions?

I dont like the JazzBlues, very bland sounding. That was on a mahogany bodied guitar though. They could be very different on a strat.

The one bonus you do get with SD products is their 21day satisfaction guarantee. Dont like the sound of it, return it to the dealer within 3 weeks for a refund. I advise not to cut the pickup wire before you know your absolutely happy with em.

Not a player's opinion, but I heard a guy playing a strat (G&L, but strat) into a Marshall JTM with a JB Junior at the bridge, and I thought it had a goodly bite to it. The player loved it, when I asked him.

i put duncan little 59 in the bridge of my strat.. Sounds amazing on overdrive/dist and has good clean sound, even though the clean sound is not that typical strat-quack/bell tone, but the clean sound still good...

Seymour Duncan JB Jrs are awesome, Janick Gers uses them and his tone is awesome, I have a Seymour Duncan Hotrails in the bridge of my Strat, highest output single coil sized humbucker that Seymour Duncan make also Dave Murray uses them which can be seen on the Rock In Rio DVD onwards and his tone is awesome. If you go for a JB Jr its a good investment, you won't be disappointed.

This is a good point. I know a lot of guys go for that humbucker tone in the bridge, but when you do so, you sacrifice that Strat out-of-phase tone in switch position #2 (Bridge + Middle pickups) no more real quack or honk. If you split the JB (or little 59) you can get some of it, but not completely. So if you like that "Strat" tome, go for a hot single coil. That is one of the reasons I like the Ultra setup, like on my picture profile. I can split or series the 2 Lace single coils..... and get Humbucker type bite or Strat quack by turning one of the pickups off. Can we post sound bites on here??????

I put a JBjr in the bridge on my MIM and I like it a lot. I have full size JB's in a Epi LP and like them. I think the Jr. sounds just as good as the full size ones. 8)

Or you could do what I do and put a SCN in the middle position. That keeps a nicely balanced tone on the bridge/mid. I put a Vintage noiseless in the neck out of phase with the mid SCN. Great for Greeny tone. It's not the penultimate inbetween sound for sure, but the sacrifice is worth the setup IMO. For quack theres only one answer. Get a same polarity middle pickup in a scatterwound vintage set and ditch the shielding.

I can provide soundbites of both Xhefri. I'll mail em to you through your site. K?

I want to put a high output SC or a Humbucker SC on my strat too, I really don´t mind not having the "quack-bell-whatever"tone on the bridge and 2nd in between. The strat quacks and twangs in the middle pickup too.

Vintage Blonde.

Years back I put a dimarzio Fastrack2 in the bridge position of my strat primarily for playing hardcore. It never left me wanting. There is a phase problem in the 2nd position though. 15.4K output for whatever thats worth. It's got plenty of power but retains treble clarity well. Somnething I've never found seymour duncan singlecoil sized humbuckers to do. Dimarzio dont wire their singlecoil sized buckers the same as their humbuckers. They dont just go xxxx amount of winds onto xxxxxxxx magnet. They listen to their product then mimic it in a smaller housing. Theres always a tonal difference between fullsized and singlecoil sized buckers.

I've always really enjoyed the tone of 2 older design and very commonly used humbuckers, namely the SD Pearly Gates and the Dimarzio Super Distortion. They're not the same animal by any means but they both work well at the bridge of both Pauls and Strats. Couple years ago I tried a guy's Strat with a single coil sized Super Distortion and it just wasn't the same even though it was close. I came away from that encounter knowing without a doubt the best way to install a bridge bucker on a Strat is to get the proper pickguard for a full sized bucker and just do it and never mind trying to keep the purist look.

Of course if you have vintage routing it prolly won't fit without some tweaking but anything made since the late 80's should accept them just fine. However, I think I'm fairly safe in assuming the owner of a vintage guitar (or re-issue) would prolly not want to install a bridge bucker anyway so that point is basically moot.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
