bought new fender tuners for my 09 mim strat today. get home 15 minutes ago, open the package and notice- no instructions :( .

now i'm a fairly smart guy- replaced the pickguard and pickup covers with no problem. but there are 2 questions about this:

1- i noticed 3 posts are higher than the other 3. the higher posts probably go on the 3 low strings-e,a,d. the lower posts would then go on g,b,e. am i correct in my assumptions?

2- when inserting the strings and tightening down, are there any special tricks- or do i just tighten down, cut the excess, and tune?

any help is appreciated.

ok- off to my friend's birthday party- i'll check in with you later tonight.

Elaborating on question #2:

Line the eye of the tuner up with the direction of the incoming string. In other words, you want to keep the string as straight as you can as it passes through the eyelet of the tuner. Once you've threaded the string through the eyelet, pull the string as tight as you can through. At this point, tighten the tuner's lock. Don't get nuts and ridiculously tighten the lock or it will cut through he string. Leave the the excess string alone for the moment, don't cut it yet. Do the same for the other five strings. Once all six are done, tune each string to where they aren't at full tension but where you can pre-stretch them the way you would with regular tuners. Now, tune all strings to pitch. One at a time, slightly wiggle each string's excess end then bend it up against the side of the tuner from the eyelet, facing north of course and then cut the excess off at the point where it is level with the top of the tuning post. Don't be surprised if after doing this with all the strings, you have to tune the guitar again. That little wiggle exercise settles the string better into both sides of the lock and is also a fail safe in the sense that it will let you know whether the string is in fact, snugly locked or if it slips through from the wiggling, that it has to be undone and redone a bit tighter. This is why you don't cut the excess until after all the above has been accomplished.

Enjoy!

as far as the clock positions-1 more question when lining the tuners, i am not sure which side to put the strings through.

for example if one end of the tuner is at the 5 o'clock position, the other side of the opening is at the the 11 o'clock position. do i go thru the 5 side, or go around thru the opposing side?

thanks for the assistance. i'm heading to bed after a long day- i'll check in again tomorrow

Just like mentioned...5,4,3,3,2,1 o'clock positions. The strings go in at the 5 o'clock position, ect...
