Just set the action 4/64's by the saddle. You'll interfere with the trem's stability by raising or lowering the tremposts. Their set and shouldnt be messed with.

I want to lower the action on my American Deluxe what do you suggest. I just got this new at GS and didn't want to tie it up in there shop doing a set up again.

Lower the saddles individualy, not the trem as a whole. It was never designed to be adjusted like that, it's not a tunomatic or a floydrose.

Dont bother adjusting the microtilt thing on the neck ever, no good will come of it.

Dear nikininja, I always respect your comments, as you have a lot of insights. (like your pict too! LOL!) But I am a little baffled at your statement about the micro-tilt? It was designed to replace the older way of using shims on the neck. I adjust it on every one of my guitars when I do a complete set up. Are you suggesting that if he messes with it, not knowing what he is doing, he is going to have trouble??

I agree, that if a person does not know what their doing, it is better to leave things alone and let a experienced tech do it, or have someone teach one how to set up a guitar properly.

No I just think its a utter waste of time. The last guitar I saw that needed shimming was a ESP thing I bought online. No more ESP for me or online sight unseen purchases. The thing was a complete dog. I think shimming as a adjustment technique is practiced far too much on guitars that dont need it.

I think fender are onto a duffer with the system anyway. They've made a crucial adjustment far too accessible by people who would be best served by not messing with the thing. And it's just not a very good system anyway. I much prefer cut up material spanning the width of the pocket rather than that bolt focusing pressure on one point.

microjilt rant over.

So is there a tech adjustment guide to set the saddles height?
I want to put everything stock then make my own adjustments on both saddles and action.
Thanx

You should get an "under string radius guage" from Stewart-MacDonald.

I know that guide but there's no references about what I'm asking.

The mc Donald gauge is good for the shape of the radius, not the height of the saddles.

Saddle heights are going to be determined by your action height and possibly the straightness of your neck. I've never heard of a standard saddle height as that is determined by your specific setup. I may be wrong though. I think you need to take the guitar to a good tech for a complete setup to your playing preference.

Once again the height of the saddles are set solely by the desired action height.

Dont waste money on radius gauges unless your shaping necks. Set your string height from the fret tops.
Dont adjust the pivot posts you'll knacker your trem.
Simply set your action by adjusting the height of the saddles. It's what their there for.

Honestly mate dont get so caught up. The underside leading edge of your trem should be around 1.5-2mm up from the body. Where the saddles go is entirely up to you. You cant measure saddle height as that is not what you play. String height taken from the fret tops (not the fingerboard) is.

Right, but if you change the height of the saddles then they should all be changed to accommodate the radius of the fretboard.

The under string radius gauges are not for shaping necks, they are for getting the saddle heights to match the fretboard radius.
