I want to install Fender locking tuners on my new American Std. Strat. Will I need to drill new guide holes or will they drop right in?

Thanks

Changing tuners usually requires marking where the new pilot hole needs to be drilled. Then put in the screws. Fill the leftover holes with the right color wood dough or similar product.

I'm no expert but, I replaced the stock tuners on my 2008 MIM standard strat with Fender locking tuners and they were a drop in swap. Just have to make sure you put the proper tuner in the proper hole. Some will be longer. But, there was no drilling and filling required. I'm sure you will get better advice from the folks here who have much more knowledge in this that myself.

The Fender locking tuners are made by PING and are very well made. They do drop right in as was told by another reader of this post. Make sure you get the post in order LONG TO SHORT and tighten just snug with a number 10mm nut driver. When putting in new strings, pull tight through the hole, lock, cut off excess and tune. How easy is that...now get them on and start playing man...Rock on

Yes there should be no drilling involved. Go for them as I wish I had them on every ax.

Fender or Schaller (if you can still find a set) locking tuners will drop right into the Am. Std. or MIM. I liked them so much I put them on all my guitars. They stay in tune very well, and string changes are an absolute breeze.

As others have mentioned...if your guitar is a newer model, they should be a direct fit. No drilling required.

I have a Deluxe strat (09) with the non-Schaller locking tuners, and they work great. Does anyone know if these will work with the American Specials? (i.e. will they drop in?) Also, do these only come in staggered...or can you find them non-staggered as well..like the stockers on the Amer. Special?

Thanks guys

Todd

The Fender/Ping locking tuners should be straight drop-in replacements on the American Special, and they are staggered-height. I'm not sure if you can still get non-staggered Schaller locking tuners for 6-inline headstocks any more. However, as long as it doesn't cause the strings to hang up you won't have to remove the second string tree (on the D and G strings).
