I did not buy a strat because of one particular artist. I just assumed everyone had to have at least 1 in their collection. The 1st one I bought could theoretically be the last one I ever own because it is perfect. My other is darn close.

I was 17 and i picked up a cheap Strat copy off of a friend of mine for £20 with an amp and all. so i learn't a real slow song by 3 doors down for the hell of it...then i realised i loved playing,but not with the guitar i had so i bought a squier telecustom and learnt for 14 months on that wonderful bit of kit. seriously it was fantastic to play and sounded superb too, but it wasnt phat...it didnt have the tonal character i wanted. and i had played my teachers Strats plenty so i knew what i wanted...so i traded in the tele as a PX and bought another Strat copy built by a local builder and musician, called Al Marconi.
The strat i have now is absolutely Superb...It does everything! just like the ones i had played in shops and on display at my tutors.

I chose the strat because its the most versatile and comfortable guitar to play.
i saw a BBC documentary in which Knopfler i think says whilst holding his Strat up "look at that...this could be something flying through space to me, its just perfect" i agree totally.

I originally avoided the strat because its such a commonly seen guitar but when you actually own one...a real beauty of a piece then you know why everyone loves them:P
