I may have been a bit harsh being a new member and all, but I am not lying about my girl when I say she is a younger Asian version of Christy Canyon.

I nice tasteful photo would dispel all doubts

I'm going to buy a Highway 1, gotta sell my Epi double neck first.. but I've tried one out at a local store. Wasn't even set up too great, but I loved the big frets and the higher action this guitar had. I liked the smooth feel of the nitro body too. Played it through a Hot Rod Deluxe (just ordered one today) and it was great. I dont see what is so bad about them. I'm gonna have to join everyone else in this thread though, and say the original poster has no clue what he is talking about.. I know because I used to be the same way. I had a Jackson guitar, came horrible out of the factory. I was 15 at the time, and just assumed Jacksons were crappy guitars. It would go out of tune so fast, buzz and hiss, the neck was crooked. I think this is pretty much what happened to this godsgifttomusic guy. Only difference is that I've learned that theres just some guitars that weren't fortunate and were manufactured poorly. Now godsgifttomusic, ou can't blame a whole line of guitars that are so immensely popular and praised. Obviously they ARE gigging guitars, you just got a bad one. Your opinion is respected, but when you handle your opinion the ignorant way you have, then it isn't respected. I honestly think you are someone trying to piss everyone off just for laughs. People like you are kind of hilarious. Just because of how pathetic it seems. But thats just if you really are a troll. Only you would know.. Now if you're the type of person that was described before, you know, the person with an American Standard strat, that loves to talk crap about lower priced models, well that's just sad. I could do the same to you. I own a Gibson I spent $1600 on. Does that make me better than you or make your opinion any more relevant? No. Also, I'm a bit curious.. you're into that metal scene.. yet you buy a strat? I'd expect someone into metal to buy something with you know, EMG's and more suited for metal. Like an ESP. Why am I getting a feeling you are making a lot of your story up.. ONE last thing, what the hell does your "sweet sex goddess girlfriend" have to do with a Highway 1 Strat? You just said that out of nowhere. Then you tell nikininja that he should get a life because of their post count? You're bragging up your "girlfriend" to us here, not even on topic.. Getting in an argument over a guitar. An argument that you instigated with your posts. Not one of those posts shows an ounce of maturity. So maybe you should follow your own advice? I dont know. Just my view. Sad this had to be my first post.. But I just had to figure out how you think. Because its fascinating. Hopefully someday you'll see not all guitars are made the same..

Was the fret wire size the same on the pre-2006 highway one necks?

Man i am glad Fender is scrapping the Highway One Strat. What a low end pile of junk. I am a gigging musician and play hundreds of shows a year. I bought it about a year and a half ago. The fret work was horrible, i cut my fingers and then had to file them down. Then in the middle of a gig a horrible buzzing came from the guitar that just wouldn't quit. I changed out cords. Same problem. I changed out with my other guitar problem went away. I took it to my guitar tech and he said the cheap electronics caused the problem and recommended replacement of the electronics. Instead I traded it in at my local guitar shop for an American standard. No problems with it. A Highway One may be okay for a home player hobbyist but that junk isn't gig worthy. Glad to see fender getting rid of this.

I work at my local music shop as a guitar tech/salesman. I bought a highway one strat a little over a year ago and couldn't be happier with it. I own an american standard as well as (and I hate to admit it) a Jag-stang. The Highway one is by far my favorite. I'm a huge fan of the jumbo frets and to be honest I love the pickups which is what most people complain about. As far as the frets "cutting your finger," I would venture to say your strings cut your finger. I find it hard to believe that frets that wide cut cut you. The quality of the construction on the highway one is identical to the standard. The difference in price comes from the fact that nitro-cellulose finish is cheaper to manufacture as well as the less expensive pickups. I understand if the pickups are not for you, they are a little hotter than the standard, but to say that the guitar is junk is just ignorant. If the frets were as bad as you said they were than you just happen to get a lemon. I think a lot of people bash the highway one because of perceived value. They think that because it is the least expensive American Fender that it must be crap and then start hearing things that aren't there.
On a side note, the Jag-stang I picked up for $100 with the intent of flipping. The market has steadily declined and decided to hang on to it. Since it is a limited edition it will hold its value as long as I need it to and the case alone was worth what I paid. Talk about a piece of junk. The mustang bridge is the worst design I have ever seen. There is no way to adjust the saddle height and you have only 3 different spring tensions possible. This thing is a collectors item only! Good luck keeping it in tune. With that said, the short scale and paper thin neck are kind of fun to play around with because you can bend it so easily, but only make the tuning problems worse.
Sorry. This was meant to be a quick response and then I started ranting. In conclusion, the highway one is far from junk. If you want junk, buy a Jag-Stang. I see why Fender only made this for like two years.

Wow this thread is going on? Say what you will about the Highway 1, mine is my #1 guitar. Is it perfect, not stock, but make some personal modifications to it and it rocks.

Fender Highway One Rocks!

I´m thinking of moding my babe as this:

Fender Custom Shop '69
Remove Greasebucket
Orangedrop Sprague
Mint Green Pickguard
Aged White Covers/Knobs
Schaller Locking Tuners
Callaham Narrow Saddles
Dimarzio Tremolo Springs
Fender Corona Neck Plate

Oh boy G.A.S is getting me!

Just this week, I had CS 69 pickups put into my H1, and I couldn't be happier. I liked the alnico 3's, but they didn't have the "vintage" sound I was really after - those 69's are brilliant for it, though.

The only other mods I've made are the addition of Schaller locking tuners, and some copper shielding on the underside of the pickguard.

I cannot recommend the 69's enough - they're just great sounding pickups.

Speaking of Highway One's, when would a US10118486 have been made?

The HW1 Strat is my number one guitar. Looks the same as joaokorb. The OP probably had some problem with his and thought he could generalize to all others...

I did change the pickups to Duncan Stacks... I really didn't like the stock pickups.
