persona. By the way you may want to examine your relationship with that person if thats the way you refer to her. Still I suppose you just cant have it all from a mail order bride, can you?

I suggest you rethink whether you want to continue this debate. I for one am quite sure your ill equipped for where this is going.

Where in china did you play and when? That would be very interesting to know. Last time I was out there I was planning a trip up to Fatshan. The consequences of hopping the border from HongKong were far too severe. Let alone go lumping a amp and guitar with me.

Not trying to bolster my online persona, just merely stating the facts. Don't need to rethink my relationship, it is great. And your wrong she isn't a mail order bride...but if you paid attention to my posts about her you would have noticed i refer to her as my girlfriend...not a bride and not a wife.

I don't need to rethink continuing this debate because one can't have a debate with a pompous insufferable arrogant know-it-all like you. I would rather go flog my log than to continue this discussion.

I played in China during the Olympics. I used equipment that was already over there. I have a few friends from China involved with the Goth-Metal underground scene over there. I am sure a know-it-all like you must be aware of the Chinese Goth-Metal underground scene.

I guess I will go flog my log now.

I may have been a bit harsh being a new member and all, but I am not lying about my girl when I say she is a younger Asian version of Christy Canyon.

I'm glad you got the measure of me.

Your completely wrong though, many have mulled over the finer points of guitar related subjects with me.

Yeah Goth at the 13club now sadly gone under last I heard. We've all been there and done the abroad gig for mates. I know just what its like. I'm suprised you never headed into Japan. Thats the real place for hardcore alternative styles, probably more so than the old eastern block.
I'll go back to being a pompous, insufferable ignorant, arrogant, know it all now. (BTW you forgot a good few very disparaging, accurate descriptions of me) How I wish I could aspire to calling my most beloved partner a Sex Goddess on a public internet forum. You must really love her, how I wish I had that depth of relationship with my lady.

Wow, not locked yet.

I look at it like this folks, the Highway 1 (or any Stratocaster) is not for everyone. Some will like them and others will not. If the orginal poster is not happy with his or her guitar either they can sell it or modify it. It is your guitar.

I have not ever had any issues with my Highway 1 as far as playability. I have modified mine a bit to suite my needs and I am quite happy with it now.

Cooler heads need to prevail here. Please stop the mud slinging.

Fender designed the Highway 1 Strat to be a no frills work horse and thats exactly what it is. To suggest that it's in any way deficient or unreliable as a stage instrument is out of order and a scare tactic aimed at the the less experienced people/players who visit the site.

I see the culprit(s) are often American Std owners. Well great. Am Stds ARE superb guitars. and if trashing Highways makes some silly people feel (even) better about them, then whoop dee doo and bully for you. How proud they must be.. Theirs are "more expensive instruments".. Theirs are "entirely American made".. Theirs are the "real Fender deal"..
God's teeth - give me a break from such ill informed prejudice and snobbery and just play the damn things.

My Highway is a fantastic guitar. My (shock, horror) Mexican made Classic 60s is even better.. Two of the best Strats I ever played weren't even Fender made..

There I've said it, now flame me..

I have bought guitars that I had to do some work on before I would use them on a professional basis. If I bought a Hiway one and it had some defects, I would make whatever changes were necessary to make it right. Since the Fender Hiway 1 is only $699 I would expect that it may need a little upgrading to be gig ready.

I have had my 2009 HWY 1 upgraded strat for just a little over a year now and I LOVE it, the only mod is a black pearloid pickguard and the LR Baggs piezo X bridge and Control X preamp installed
The pickups arent too bad at all, they sound great thru my Vox AC 30TB and Centaur overdrive pedal... Sound is all a matter of taste, so to dis' a pickup cause it greives your preference...... I actually prefer the tone of alnico 5 mags but the A3 arent to bad at all... I gig with mine at least 2 times a week plus around 2 practices a week as well and have never had a problem with it....

Its in my opinion (Im not an expert like alot of you guys  ) a decent axe for the money, completely gig worthy....

For the record though..... I would definately change the 70's style headstock to a reg one if given the choice...... sigh, oh well.

I have had a 1987 American Standard Strat, a 2007 Highway One Strat
and a 2009 Highway One Tele. Each one of them has been great.
I love the Highway One Line. I have only found great quality in my Highway Ones. May the line live long and may the Wine Red, Daphne Blue, Honey Blonde all come back. My Alnico 3's in my Highway One Strat sound really good. I think the Dimarzio would improve the middle and bridge pickups but I have left it stock as it keeps it under warranty. My neck pickup is killer.
Perhaps it was a special day when that pickups was made...the right materials, the right way of winding it. It just came out sounding great.
I use a vintage 1962 Epiphone Pacemaker amp that makes all the difference. I also have the Fender Blues Jr. I say all that to say that it is a travesty that anyone would insult the guitars we love. Since they are our special love, It is hurtful.
On the other hand, I am grateful I found such quality Highway Ones. I regret not everyone has had my wonderful experience. I am sorry that someone didn't have a positive experience. However, let us not paint the whole line of Highway Ones with this brush of negativity seeing so many of us had found fantastic guitars. I have read MANY reviews where people have said the Highway Ones have beaten out the American Standards in terms of tone and playability. You may want to investigate this. Check Harmony Central and even this Fender website. You will find serious musicians find them to be awesome instruments.
I also want to give kudos to the fine people who have made and continue to make these fine USA made instruments. My hat is off to you!
Keep up the good work and do not be discouraged by this. There are many who love your work. My American Standard was sweet too. It was one of the first ones with the E4 serial number in Gun Metal Blue. I bought that beauty in June of 1987.

I found your subject interesting. It was very candid. It shows that not every Fender is perfect or right for every player.

I own a black 2007 HWY1 and I love it. By the same token it took me a little bit. The first thing I did was get it set up. I couldn't get it to stay in tune for anything and action sucked.

I've had no issues after the set up and it became my main gigging guitar for about a year, but I'm deployed right now. So it sits in storage at the moment.

Over all I'm quite happy with the guitar, but I will say that it's not for everyone. The pickups are not true sounding Strat pickups. The tone pots are a little different, too.

I wouldn't be very satisfied with this guitar if I was trying to get a "Vintage" sound out of it, but it has never failed when it counted; in front of people.

As to getting good fenders out of the box: I was the one who opened the box that my EC Strat came in. The very first thing that I noticed was that the neck was put on crooked. The high "E" was almost of the neck. I loosened a bolt and seated the neck properly. All better. I was a little pissed though. I had to wait a month to get this guitar because I special ordered in Candy Green. You’d think that quality control would be better.
Maybe you got a bad HWY1.

Looks more that your cable from your guitar to your amp is defective, this can give a continius buzzing sound that won't go away, try and change this cable first.

I have played , but dont own a hwy1,but it is a great guitar. The thing I like about Fender is they produce quality instruments to fit every budget. No matter what your budget, you can find a suitable well built guitar to fit your needs.Where we seem to run amok is when we enter the "my MIA is better than your MIM ", or "my MIM is better than your MIA " debates. Why one spends xxx number of dollars whether too much or not enough is the silliest of arguements and such a waste of bandwith. As far as comparing ones girlfriend to an "adult" star,I will just leave it at that.
