You're very welcome - always glad if some of my ramblings on the forum help someone

On the original Highway One pickups, my personal opinion is that there's absolutely nothing wrong with them. They do sound dirty/hot/Texanish and that's of course not the preference for everyone - although one can get quite nice vintage/clean/mellow sounds from these, too. (Screw the pups low, keep the guitar vol down, use your tone control, and the other usual tweaks on pedals & amp.)
Maybe a part of the HWay1 pups are frequently upgraded is that these guitars were/are relatively cheap, so the threshold to modding feels lower (than e.g. AmStandards, Deluxes etc.).

I own a 2007 Highway 1. With the exception of the strap locks, fat 50's, and wiring mine is all original. I love the feel and look of mine. Never had any fret buzz, cutting my fingers on the frets, or any other hardware issues with it. I only replaced the pickups on it to give it a more vintage Stratocaster sound to it. I no longer needed a hot guitar after I hot rodded my Blacktop.

A Stratocaster is made to be personalized. Some people like them just the way they come, while others see the potential of what can come out of them with a few minor tweaks. It's a choice the owner makes based on his or her preference.

My Highway 1 was my goto guitar for several years, until I bought my American Deluxe. I still play it pretty often, especially for more classic rock tones. But when I can only bring one guitar to a session, I prefer the Deluxe because I can get any sound I want from it.

I will say that i proudly own a Highway 1.

Hmmmmm......this thread seems to have resurfaced.
I haven't added to this one in a while.
Well....let me reassert my insanity.....I do indeed LOVE the Highway One HSS series....
so much so....that I bought AND heavily modified every color of the series.
Crazy...perhaps.....

Man i am glad Fender is scrapping the Highway One Strat. What a low end pile of junk. I am a gigging musician and play hundreds of shows a year. I bought it about a year and a half ago. The fret work was horrible, i cut my fingers and then had to file them down. Then in the middle of a gig a horrible buzzing came from the guitar that just wouldn't quit. I changed out cords. Same problem. I changed out with my other guitar problem went away. I took it to my guitar tech and he said the cheap electronics caused the problem and recommended replacement of the electronics. Instead I traded it in at my local guitar shop for an American standard. No problems with it. A Highway One may be okay for a home player hobbyist but that junk isn't gig worthy. Glad to see fender getting rid of this.

Hi "godsgifttomusic",

I know this is an old post by now, but since I'm new to this forum, and I've been a proud owner of a Wine Red Highway One Strat build in 2006, I will say this... You're clearly a Troll!! Its a basic Strat, meaning SINGLE COILS! Of course it'll hum! Any professional musician such as myself and many others on this forum would know if you're gonna gig with one of these axes, you're gonna get the 60hz hum on any stage at any venue! Don't like it buy an Elite Strat or a Deluxe Strat... That is all....

Godsgift obviously got a bad one!

I don't have a Highway One, but I do have its similar (well, Fender would say) replacement - a Special - and I probably play it more than any of my other Strats, including a CS!

OK, I've had the jumbos removed and mediums put in, but that's personal preference. I also changed the jack socket for a Switchcraft as it seemed a little fragile. But otherwise I really can't fault it and am very happy to play it in any circumstances. I bought it used, but the fact that it's cheaper shouldn't put people off, in my view.

Cheers - Peter.

Satan's Curse On Music is an obvious idiot. It's a 60 cycle hum, dimwit, and it's pure Strat; don't like it then buy a Les Paul. Moron.

Recently purchased '07 H1 HSS off Craigslist; $500 bucks, all original, black and white in mint condition. Not near mint; mint. I prefer the big headstock, BTW, but your results may vary.

Presupposing the admin ever sees it ;-)

I had to go back to page 1 or was it 2 ( obviously posted a great many years ago) to have any clue what he was talking about.

The thing about the HW1's well certainly the big headstock Mk II's (the best ones) is they have a super thin finish so almost impossible to keep immaculate if you take it out of the case.
