i had a honey blond HW1 loaded body and a Fender classic player 50's neck a few years ago or eight .It was a good combination though I confess the honey blond looked more like computer beige.I sold it and always regretted it .I am now making amends and now have a similar neck coming .This will be bolted on to my partscaster strat until I can get a suitable light body which of cours eHW1's are .So will be on the look out later for a body .i like the finish on the HW1 and its lightweight though probably a burst body rather than computer beige

I think you may have just had bad luck with it! I have 4 Strats and I prefer my Highway One to my others, aside from my American Deluxe. However I have the HSS model which has different pickups than the standard single coil Hwy 1. It plays really well! But to each his own, just gotta find a guitar that suits your style!

I recently picked up a 2002 Highway One Strat in Mocha Brown which is a phenomenal Guitar. It's all stock with some nice wear on the nitro finish.

It is now my number 1 guitar.

It has the normal size headstock and I believe the Vintage Strat pickups in it were different from the ones that came after 2006 with the bigger headstocks.

Are you absolutely sure on that Mocha Brown - looks to me to be too transparent and too reddish for what is often called "perhaps Fender’s most aesthetically challenged custom color"

I'm thinking just maybe it's the Cocoa Transparent; pic & info in this topic: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=57507

I think you're right. :)

It is a challenging colour and to be honest I'm not a huge fan but the guitar is so worn, plays so great and looks so good as a result that you actually see past the colour. I'm on a mission to wear the cr*p out of it that ends up looking something like John mayer's Black 1.

The reason I asked is, that usually I'm not a fan of Mochas (sorry for all who have one),
but this guitar I liked...

also would like to add..that all others after the Highway one are nothing more than a knock off from the original Highway ones...point in case the American special...nothing beats the original..and the Highway one is most certainly the original and a brilliant Strat

I am searching for someone that has been the first owner of their Highway 1 Strat and could tell me what the original pups are that are on them. I bought mine used and was told that mine has Seymour-Duncan pups and I want to restore to original and don't know what original is. I have tryed to do research at no avail, all I know is that they were Alnico III and S-D makes Alnico III pups. I may be asking a silly question but if so, just give me a silly answer

Since the key here is original, you don't give much to start from - not even the manufacturing year...

The "original" Highway One series had "Vintage Style Single-Coil Strat® Pickups with Staggered Pole Pieces, Alnico Magnets". After the upgrade, "Hot singlecoil Strat pickups w/Alnico 3 magnets". Greasebucket wiring on both. I'm pretty sure all had the mid pup RW/RP.

Just saying a pickup has Alnico (?)'s doesn't tell a lot. The wire & winding has a lot to do with the hotness/sound. No aftermarket pickup preserves the "originality", but if you go that way, the HWY1 should sound dirty. Plenty of options to go...
But, the way towards that real originality would be to get HWY1 pickups from the build year of your guitar, plus wire it in the stock style of that year. Ebay, CL, whatever similar you have in your area are the likely sources.
All of that IMHO, of course.

Thank you, jmattis and AJ. That answered my question. I have a black 2007 highway one Strat with rosewood neck, I bought in 2013 that was mint condition and seemed as though it had never been played. This guitar had no tone control at the no. 1 switch position and I was told, greasebucket wiring had no tone control on the no. 3 position so along with seymour-duncan pups, it had been wired to traditional Strat wiring. The wiring, I don't have a problem with, but I simply refuse to have Seymour-Duncan pups in such a classic guitar. I have recently bought a set of Vintage '59s to suffice til I can get a set of the originals though I have been told that there was a good reason the originals have been pulled out. They seem to be not very popular. What is your opinion on this?
