Man i am glad Fender is scrapping the Highway One Strat. What a low end pile of junk. I am a gigging musician and play hundreds of shows a year. I bought it about a year and a half ago. The fret work was horrible, i cut my fingers and then had to file them down. Then in the middle of a gig a horrible buzzing came from the guitar that just wouldn't quit. I changed out cords. Same problem. I changed out with my other guitar problem went away. I took it to my guitar tech and he said the cheap electronics caused the problem and recommended replacement of the electronics. Instead I traded it in at my local guitar shop for an American standard. No problems with it. A Highway One may be okay for a home player hobbyist but that junk isn't gig worthy. Glad to see fender getting rid of this.

Your forum name goes well with your post. I don't even own a Highway One and I think that I see someone trolling for a reaction with that thread.

I have a pre upgrade 2004 Hwy 1.
The guitar sounds more like an old 70s strat than my 2009 US standard (plays and looks just the same but not with noiseless pickups).
I have always considered the Hwy 1 upgrade as an actual downgrade.
Jumbo frets large headstock and and those terrible pickups, an upgrade? don,t think so.
Personally I think the pre upgrade started to outsell the US standard and in 2006 was redesigned to make it look :D less appealing compared to the US standard.

I have been a long time reader of this forum and finally decided to get an account and begin posting. Why did you find it necessary to call me a troll? I just shared my opinion about a Fender product that I found to be a pile of junk and ungiggable. If you disagree with my opinion fine, but I am not a troll.

Yeah mine was a 2007. Maybe that was it. Whatever it was it was just a rotten guitar.

When I saw that you had only 5 posts and got on a Fender forum and blew up one of their products it felt to me like an obvious attack. Your opinion was obviously fueled by a most likely embarrassing and obviously annoying account of what happened. There's dogs in every company's line and lemon's rolling off of every production line and it looks like you got a combination of both. It just seemed like a rant out of nowhere. I'm happy that you found peace in an American Strat.

I have noticed a lot of people love the HWY 1 Strat.
The upgraded one is not for me (to hot and ugly) but that is a personal thing, for others it may be perfect.
I think you got an unlucky dog..

My Highway 1 is a late 2006 Upgraded version. I have no issues with it, although the only original parts are the body, neck and pickups. Everything else has been changed.

You filed down your fingers?!?!? man you're gonna get a buzzing tone out of your guitar if you try and play without fingers....

Opinions notwithstanding, I've yet to see anything from Fender that indicates that the H1 model is being discontinued.

This is an assumption/opinion that I've seen repeated as fact more than once. It seems to be based on the introduction of the American Special model.

Just in the interests of clarity - I've yet to see confirmation, from any official source, that the H1 is being discontinued. :)

Also - yes, I own an '06 upgraded H1 Strat and think it's the best Fender guitar I've owned, and I've been playing since I was 16 (I'm 38 ). I've owned a stock '74 strat and an 80's HM strat (with Kahler locking trem), and a couple of 80's MIJ telecaters, and the H1 is my favourite by far. The only mod I've made is the addition of Schaller locking tuners.

As a proud owner of 7 Highway One Stratocaster HSS's...I would have to disagree!
The bodies and necks on these guitars are wonderful, resonant pieces of wood.
What I WILL agree on is the ELECTRONICS issue.
Let's face it.....the pickups SUCK!! After scrapping ALL the pickups, cheap Ping tuners, and putting on Graph Tech saddles.....I must say....these are some of the finest guitars I've owned!!

Let's get real for a moment. These is a Fender Stratocaster for UNDER $1000.00.........WHAT DID YOU EXPECT??!

After putting another $200-300.00 into my guitars....I have completely stage worthy instruments!
While I don't do hundreds of gigs a year like yourself......the ones I do work out very nicely with my Highways!

Welcome to the forums, that being said you'll be hard pressed to find many who share your view. Most people I know and have interacted with think it is a shame they have discontinued/scaled back production of the Highway 1 series.

I don't own a Hwy1,but on the electronics issue...everybody has a different ear when it comes to pickups.I currently own 5 Strats,an '87 American Standard,2 90's A Standards, a '57 RI and a '59 vintage thin skin from Wildwood.
The Wildwood is the only one that I will leave the stock pickups in.
All the others have Van Zandts or Fralins which sound much better to me...and I'm pretty sure I paid more for those guitars than a Hwy 1...so if a person is happy with what they have whether it's a Squire or MIM or whatever,I'm glad for them and don't call what they have junk. :)
