Okay, I'm hoping some people here may be able to guide me a little. I found this on the local Craigslist and of course was inspired buy the price. I called the guy and he is telling me that it is a MIM (obviously for the price). Anyway, when I asked him for the serial number off of the headstock he tells me that there isn't anything on the headstock and that the neck has been refinished. Other than this, supposedly, the guitar is in immaculate condition. I'm planning to go look at it on Friday morning. My main question is this, is there anywhere else I can find the serial number to be sure that this is in fact what the owner says it is ? I am posting the link to the ad below. Also, any suggestions on what a reasonable offer would be for this if it IS a MIM strat or should I just run in the opposite direction. Thank you in advance any any light you might be able to shed on this.

Skip this one as there are a hundred great deals out there on ebay that are better than this.

Looks like it could be a cool guitar for 125. About it being a Fender MIM, I'm no expert. It's been customized with chrome knobs and a re-finished neck? Huh. What's with the photo where a string is broken?

Shouldn't there be marks in the neck pocket or under the pick guard? Bring your screwdrivers. That's all I can say.

Looks like the "large headstock" as used by a lot of Squiers. It definately doesn't look like a Fender 2 point trem bridge.

Thanks to everyone who posted. The guitar looked pretty suspect to me. You know what they say, if it looks too good to be true......Anyway, I shot the guy a email and told him to keep his guitar. Just too many unknowns for me on this one. I guess I know what to do but, I needed to hear it from some folks with more experience than me.

Thanks again

I concur. The trem and saddles look exactly like my Squier Standard.

22 frets, 2-point trem?? Definitely not Fender, and -- I am guessing on this part -- not even a Squier. Clearly, "seller is lying" = "stay away"

Did anybody else notice the length of the trem arm?
