I don't even put stickers on my cases. No way would I stick something on one of my guitars. But to each his own. If that's what lights your bong then fire it up.

i dont really like it, i can understand though Guthrie putting a sticker or writing on his because it was a message he was passionate about and same with seeger too.

its funny though because it can bring down the value if your not careful. I was on craigslist and there was a guy selling and original mustang body from 66 or 67 and because he had like 20 stickers on them for over 20 years some of the paint had come off (not normal wear and tear but huge strips).

I don't do anythng to deface my guitars.I have a '67 Dover electric guitar and I put a Chiquita banana sticker on the headstock when I was about 14 but that's about it. I did however get a little 1/2 " by 2" nameplate put on the pickguard of LUCY my new Les Paul.

I have done it, I put a Batman logo on my Squier bass, and occasionally I will put one of those little stickers that you get on fruit, but I eventually look at it, think "That's kind stupid looking" and immediately take it off. I haven't done it in a while, and I dont think I will. It is kinda dumb looking to me , but if that's what you're into, go for it. It's your bass, do what you want with it.

Sometime back in the early '80s I thought it would be really cool idea to put a Batman sticker on my '62 Reissue Strat, right behind the bridge. When I finally got sick of looking at it I tried to remove it and the damn thing would not come off! It came off in little strips leaving big chunks of adhesive and paper behind. I tried to scrape it off with my fingernails but the adhesive goop was still clearly visible. Next I used a tiny bit of GooGone and that did work but it also removed some of the finish and it was starting to look funny, so I figured I would try some very fine steel wool. I was able to remove all of the adhesive but I also ended up needing to buff out all of the fine scratches left from the steel wool. In the end, the scratched were gone and it all looked smooth but there was a worn-down matte-finish white spot spreading out from the cream color. It looked kind of weird then but now, 25 years later, the other natural wear around it has caught up and it all blends in together.

The whole sticker thing is kind of funny. I'm always finding these graphics that I think will look SO cool on one of my guitars but then, when it's on the guitar and I'm actually looking at it I change my mind! It's OK though because it's fun to try one out for a little while and then maybe change it to another one in a couple of months. I will get the picture or graphic just the way I want it, make sure that it's the right size for where it is going to go and then print it out on my Inkjet Sticker Paper. It's great because the adhesive backing on this paper is just sticky enough but it's not like those old bumper stickers from the '60s and '70s where you needed gasoline and a razor blade to remove them! I love these new "custom" stickers because they're not permanent. You can peel them off whenever you want and they never leave behind any adhesive damage.

What I've realized is that if the guitar is beautiful to begin with a sticker is probably not going to look too good, but if the guitar is kind of plain or ugly then a sticker sure can't hurt and it might even help!

Here are a few of my sticker experiements:

I have the band logo of my Beach Boys tribute band on my '63 Jaguar (I actually think this looks pretty good and it's a good advertisement):

My '66 Phantom seemed like it needed something and the Hot Wheels sticker just looks like it belongs there:

I put my other band logo on my '52 Tele but it didn't last long. For some reason this guitar looks best naked:

I guess I'm in the minority. I see a sticker I like, and just throw it on one of my guitars.
