Have the 12 string stratocasters been phased out?

I don't believe they've been made for quite some time,at least I haven't seen any-pity.

The Strat XII was made by Fender Japan. It came in two versions.

The original 1985 version featured some slight differences compared to the re-issue model of 2005; it had a larger bridge and saddle system similar to that of an Electric XII and an altered headstock shape with raised machine heads. It also used a 22-fret neck with a rosewood fingerboard and pearloid dots. The 2005 re-issue features a modified hard-tail Strat bridge and a maple neck featuring a pao ferro fretboard with 21 frets and clay dot inlays.

This guitar was originally introduced in 1985 and re-issued 20 years later after a brief discontinuation in 1996. Unlike the Fender Electric XII, it uses a Strat-style body. Fender discontinued the Strat XII in 2009.

I hope the unsold ones stick around for a while then--I'd like to get one some day--or maybe I can find a used one.

I own a 2006 Stratocaster XII in Lake Placid Blue and the fretboard is most definitely rosewood.

It's not exactly a Ric 360/12 but it does have sufficient "jangle" to pull off most Tom Petty, Byrds, and Beatles tunes that require the 12-string vibe. I replaced all of the electronics in mine with US-made pots, wiring, and switch, plus a set of CS 69 pickups which deliver a more focused and articulate tone. Fender periodically re-introduces this model to its line every five or six years so if you cannot find one on the secondary market I'm sure you'll see it listed as a "NEW-NEW!" model in a future edition of "Frontline".

Here's the original mid-1980s Strat XII. I don't own this guitar, but I appreciate the 12-string chime and jangle this beauty produces.

This exquisite example was made in 1986.

The Custom Shop has never released a Stratocaster XII, but this 12-string Telecaster guitar is truly an astounding piece of workmanship. I always wanted to have a Tele XII in my arsenal.

Some 12-string Custom Shop Telecasters had 21 frets, later models like the 1997 example shown below had 22.

Hi Retroverbial,I have been looking for a 360/12 for some time and hope to find one on an upcoming trip to Florida. After seeing your Lake Placid Blue XII I think that would be a suitable option.BTW there's a luthier in the US who does XII string conversions to Teles,I saw it on a thread here some months ago, maybe he could be an alternative.Sorry I don't have a link.

I got mine off of Ebay in '07 -- it was "like new" with all the hang tags, paperwork, and a gig bag. I think I paid $550 at the time.

Be advised if you wish to buy a vintage-type G&G case for the Strat XII, there is only one available that correctly accommodates the elongated headstock. The standard Strat/Tele case will not work.

Hi, well there is still hope for you, I play in a band called Purple Light District, and walked in to a shop in Northampton UK just before xmas 2010, and spotted a metallic purple strat hanging off the wall, I wasnt really in to buy a guitar, just a strap.
As I got nearer I realised that it was a X11, well I had been thinking of saving up for a Rickenbacker but my main guitars have been a 1975 Telecaster and a Strat for years, I was playing a Freshman 12 string acoustic for some of the Eagles stuff we do, and wanted that jingly sound for some of the Byrds/Dylan stuff we do, well I hadnt saved enough, but they took it off the wall anyways and I played it through a Vox VT 100, which is what I use, man the sound is incredible my guitar playing isnt great but this X11 sounds great through the amp, I put it on my credit card just had to, If you want an electric 12 string, just wait till one of these croses your path, it is well built and stays in tune better than my mexican strat 6 string, lovely piece of craftsmanship

They turn up regularly on Ebay. The last one I saw just recently was in the 3TSB finish with a BIN price of $575.
