the planets have lined up and I have 4K to spend on a guitar. Mostly I've played Fenders but I was wondering for that amount of coin what else should I be looking at besides Strats, Jags & Jazzes?

You could buy 20 squiers, or 10 MIM Standards, or 5-6 Am. Specials or Highway Ones, or 4 Am. Standards, or 3 Am. Deluxes, or 2-3 Am. Vintages, or 1 Custom Shop ^^

Personally I'd just get the best axe I could find for under $2k and leave the rest in the bank. For Amplification purposes ^^

So you want us to tell you what to blow 4 G's on besides Strats, Jags, and Jazzmasters? How about a Tele or a bass? Would you like a Les Paul? Do you need a nice amp too? How about a gold plated diamond encrusted ukulele? :P I don't know what you want. What kind of music do you play?

Although, I like Capo's idea of banking some of that dough.

Have fun shopping and keep us posted what you decide. POST SOME PICS!

Personally I'd get an American Deluxe Strat and a Marshall 2061X/CX 2x12 Half Stack!

The guy who set up my MIA strat swears by the PRS 24 something-or-other.

You might want to try that.

If it were me with $4k to enjoy I might be looking at acoustics, amps or maybe a full surround sound system by Bose.

Save it for a CS Hitmaker Strat (due out this year) ! 8)

Then sell your other Strats.

You could get a collector's piece Strat/Les Paul from the 70's or early 80's.

For me I'd have to be pretty amazing to spend $4000 on one guitar. I'd spend it on an assortment of maybe 2 guitars and maybe an amp or two. That would net you some very good equipment and a nice range in tones and styles.

What equipment do you have already? Do you gig? How experienced are you? What are your intentions? These are just some of the questions I would have for somebody asking me what to do with four thousand dollars to spend on a "guitar".

In any case. Have fun shopping! I know I would. Enjoy.

If you're buying a Les Paul get the Epiphone 59 reissue,It's about 1/4 the price of the Gibson Les Paul and twice the guitar, then you'd haveplenty left for a real nice Strat,Jag,Jazz,Tele,P-Bass,Jazz Bass,Jag Bass all are fine guitars.
