hi all
just bought my first strat (used) and i'm slightly worried.
the neck appears to be genuine (1991 mexican made model), but the tuners, bridge saddles and neck plate do not have any fender logo or "f" on them. i removed the scratchplate and had a look at the pickups and electronics and none of them had any fender markings either. the body has one large cavity for the pickups - i have only ever seen pictures of strat bodies with 3 pickup shaped cavities connected by a channel for the cables.
i know designs and manufacturing processes constantly change so this may be normal for a guitar of this age.
can anyone tell me if this is a genuine strat......................please

Hello and welcome. Pics would definately help us work out what you have.

I had a '92 mexican Strat and going from memory the string saddles on the bridge had Fender stamped on them and the body definately had 3 pickup cavities - 2 slightly triangular shaped ones for the neck and middle pickups and a larger humbucker sized cavity at the bridge. Most bodies I have seen with the single large "swimming pool" cavity have been aftermarket bodies or I even believe some Squiers had them.

The plain neck plate is typical for standard Strats and Teles.

I'm sure someone else may be able to shed some more light but pictures would definately help.

Cheers.

Though Fender have done swimming pool routes too. I have no idea of the dating of that style of route in relation to early Mexican made Strats - but someone will know!

As mentioned, pictures would be very useful... :D

Cheers - C

My '98 MIM has Fender on the tuners and saddles but the neck plate is plain. The routing is for three single coils. I can't remember if there are any Fender stamps on the pots.
