Edit: So as it turns out the fellow retracted his offer. Guess he had some second thoughts, but I'll leave this up for those interested

**

The other day I put up my '62 Musicmaster with interest as to what I could get for it.

A fellow offered me his Gretsch hollowbody, and I was wondering what my knowledgeable Fender friends could tell me about it:

One aspect that pokes my curiousity is that the serial indicates that the guitar was manufacted in '03, although the anniversary plaque says "1883-1993". Can anyone enlighten me with regards to this?

Any info you have with respect to this guitar would be most appreciated -- in particular what a ballpark estimate on the value might be!

(PS - I hope it's alright with everyone that I've posted a Gretsch. In all technicality it's pretty much Fender who's producing 'em  )

Actually, after a bit of research it looks like one of these:

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gretsch-Guitars-G6117T-Anniversary-HT-With-Bigsby-Electric-Guitar?sku=511515

...but with a country gentleman Bigsby

What do you all think?

http://gretschpages.com maybe able to give you more info on it

As to the serial number: Japan, Terada factory, March 2003, 1663 guitar built.

I find it odd that the plate says 110th anniversary. There was a 120th Anniversary which was made in 2003.

I would also ask for a picture of the sticker (seen in the F hole) as it would have the model number and serial number on it (to check for consistancy).

Tremolo arm seems wierd also.

Let me just say make sure you play on first. I have always been a huge Brian Setzer fan and wanted a Gretsch so bad , and when I had the chance to get one I could not for the life of me bond with that ax. It felt like a different instrument. Funny thing is 20 years later I read an interview with Setzer who said the exact thing about solid body guitars.

If I'm not mistaken the pup surrounds and pups are Hi-Lo Trons as on a Tennesean and not original to that guitar,if so that's a plus right away as the Hi-Lo Trons were fabulous pickups. You can hear Hi-Lo Tron pups in action on old Beatle songs-All My Loving is a prime example. That guitar should sound wicked even if they're the T.V. Jones reissue Hi-Lo Trons as they are a faithful repro of the original Gretsch.
