So about four months ago I purchased a Stratocaster Deluxe HSS with the switching node on the volume knob, and the humbucker at the bridge. I'm currently not too attatched to the noisless pickups it came with and want to replace them with custom shop 69's, but I'm in love with the versatility of the node. I don't know how it will work if I switch any of the pickups, will the node stop working? And is there another humbucker that can switch between single and double coil via the node that also has that late 60's tone? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Welcome.

It will work but keep in mind that you will have varying degrees of 60 cycle hum any and every time either or both of the 69s are activated. As to the full sized HB with a late 60's tone when split, a 'regular' Duncan Pearly Gates, NOT the Plus model should satisfy your requirements quite nicely. Note that this full sized HB MUST have the OEM four conductors for your purposes. There are a lot of used ones going around where somewhere along the line, the four conductor wiring gets changed to a single conductor post factory. So if you decide to go used, make sure the PG you buy has the four conductors.

When you say this what do you exactly mean, and just to confirm, the pearly gates humbucker will split between single coil and humbucker right?

As we speak, all three pickups in your guitar are humbucking. Being single coils, the CS69s are not humbucking. Hence, they will have a bit of background hum (which is normal) when you play off of them.

Yes, a 4 conductor Pearly Gates will split between a single coil and a humbucker.

OK final question, when it splits will the single coil have that late 60's bridge tone as well as the double coil?

As the Pearly Gates is a trebly sounding PAF, in a Strat, it will have that late 60s sound in either mode.
