It can be done!

Though I'm thinking that particular SideValves design would look nice just painted on to a regular plastic pickguard. Perhaps of a different color, to emphasise the white background of the logo?

As you know, I'm ready and willing to do that anytime you want, too... :D

For those as don't know Zemaitis guitars, this is approximately the sort of thing that came into my mind when thinking of an engraved metal pickguard for a Strat:

Obviously, you'd then use pickups (single or 'buckers) with metal covers, and get some nice solid metal Strat knobs from Whammyworld too. Keep the whole thing shiny...!

Cheers - C

A little too ostentatious for my liking. I'll happily carve/cut you a scratchplate you can do as you like with though.

Any idea where I could get a bit of bone big enough to make one? A elephants skull maybe?

I am wanting to take a MIM and put some EVH hums in it. I know nothing about that kind of junk though.

I really think Cerci has made it look so very easy to BUILD a guitar.... I'm thinking surely it is no hassle to import a couple new pups... and a new bridge... and some locking tuners....

Nice work btw, Ninja.

Peace,

Well I think I've finaly perfected this strat. I ditched the jackson pickups and fitted some 59Paf clones out of my Vintage(brand). The neck pickup has a flipped magnet giving a very mid honking sound in the both on position. The clear toppy sound of the pickups coupled with the midboost is wonderfull. You get to add some mids and get it closer to that plummy LP sound, not identical but giving a nod.

I tried something like that with P90s.

Ah Mike you gotta come to England and try this mate. 2 wilkinson paf clones, one out of sync with the other ala pete green (taken from the wilkinson designed green lp copy) with a clapton midboost.

You go from humbuckered strat-ghostly green tone- buckered strat. With the boost on 2 it seems to make up for the alder shortcomings in getting a gibson tone, kind of. Creamy as a cowshed but plenty of clarity. I'm absolutely smitten with it.

LOL..

So that's your Lemon Drop dismantled then!

Know what you mean about the pickups - those PAF clones of Trev Wilkinson are ridiculously good. My Lemon Drop remains intact and I have thought several times about replacing the pickups with the Bare Knuckle PG set. But I've never bothered because I'm just crazy about the sound of those Wilkinsons. And the mid out of phase sound is the canines reproductive organs..

Sticking a set in a Strat though, would never have occurred to me in my lifetime. And with the option of the Clapton mid boost too. Unique.

(If you want a set of pickups to put in the Vintage, I can seriously recommend Seymour Duncan's JB and Seth Lover models for a great vintage sound) I've just put a pair in my black pearloid Epiphone Les Paul (a guitar that has to be seen to be believed).

Good off the wall call on your modified Strat. Better that instrument than the Paul Kossoff owned strat that Dave Murray similarly modified. Bet he regrets that every day..

Adey

I never liked the neck of the PGM100. I'm not too much of a fan of gibson upper access issues on the LP or the baggy feel of the scale length. The Lemondrop is still intact, I havent taken the neck out yet, though I do fancy a gander at the neck joint. You cant beat out Trev for design, I wish I could get to try one of the FretKings. Did you know he still converses with masterbuilders on component design? Fender havent used his products since the early 90's yet he can still wander into the holy of holies of his own volition.

The mid boost adds just the right amount at around 2/4 to get that plummy compressed mahogany type sound. It's still not a LP clone tone, it never will be. The neck gets a convincing beano tone and the bridge does a decent Perry sound. I'm a very happy chappie.

Hey adey: not sure if I knew where you live before. But I do now! There's things in that little paragraph that do not cross the Atlantic. People are reading this thinking: "canine reproductive organs" - excuse me?

BTW: if we think BareKnuckle pickups are expensive where we live you should see what they sell for across the pond. Wow! Good, though but...

Cheers - C
