What you all think of the a humbucker on a Strat - perversion or great addition? What do you miss if you don't have the single coil at the bridge?

My #1 is an AM-DLX hss :)
An hss with s1 switching makes all the stratty sounds you want. :)

However the humbucker used in strats is very anemic when compared to an SG with p90's.

Theres a place for it definately. I wouldnt have it instead of 3 singlecoils but would have it as well as.
Infact I'm just carving a HH pickguard and about to route my MIM body to create a ultimate metal midboosted strat.

I vote for:

Greatest guitar ever!

Every sound I ever wanted....the perfect feel, sound.....the pinnacle of what any music instrument could ever hope to be, or ever will be.

To put it mildly.

I'm for it. There is nothing perverted about getting good sounds out of a Strat.

When I play my SSS Highway one the only thing I miss is a humbucker...

Despite being a Strat and Tele man my for pretty much my entire life I've never really cared for the tone of the Strat bridge pup by itself. The Tele is great but the Strat not so much. For that purpose I think the HSS is the greatest thing since sliced bread. The only drawback to the HSS in my mind is how the bridge&middle position loses some of its Stratty character. That's why I still have a SSS Strat after culling the herd. Also, I know this sounds maybe a little nit-picky but I think the angle of the bridge pup maybe has something to do with the quality of the bridge&middle quack. I've tried a HSS Strat wired to split the coils in that position and it was closer but still wasn't quite right somehow. Of course I'm sure buckers are voiced differently when split so that may be part of it as well.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

After owning Strats for almost 40yrs I have become a traditionalist.I just prefer the sss configuration of a Strat, granted there are those who like or even prefer the hss layout I'll stick to my 3 single coils and use my humbucker equipped Guild S-100 or my Epi G-400 Les Paul Custom when the need arises.

I am a traditional Strat guy but will probably add an HSS someday.

Personal preference is traditional layout.

Should we though feel the same "it might be icky" way about Gibsons which were first made with P-90s and added those big or little or gold HBs?

To me, part and parcel of a Strat is SSS with the 6 polepieces each. But then again, who am I? Whatever floats your boat!

I prefer S/S/S. It just looks like a Strat. However, as long as it's a Strat, it's all good.

My #1 is also a HSS Am. Standard 3-colour burst. My close #2 is Am. Special SSS tuned to Eflat for SRV sound. My HSS is great for the type of rock songs I play - not to powerful (Rush / 38 Special) through H&K Edition Blue 30 amp. Next will likely be an Am. Standard SSS Candy Cola with Rosewood fretboard. Thanks.
