Ever since I first heard of the VG Stratocaster I was hooked, and I want one really badly. I mean really, really badly. The only problem is that it's around 1,000 dollars out of my price range. I guess I could find work and get that much in a couple months, but I'd rather not have to.

My question is, because I have searched and searched online, has anyone seen any used VGs being sold cheaper than around 1,800 dollars?

My other question is I have a Fender Jaguar made in Japan in the 80s that I guess I would sell if it gave me enough money to buy a VG. It works fine, except it has some serious fuzz/white noise when the tone knob is turned up. I'm not actually selling this (yet) so don't ask to buy it, but does anyone know how much I might get for it/ how much you would pay for it?

Finally, is it worth selling my other guitars that I rarely use/wouldn't use in order to spring for a VG? I hear most everyone is pleased with theirs, but is it worth it that much?

Thanks guys!

According to auctions on eBay, MIJ Jaguars go for about $700

Should you, why not? Andy Summers is playing one the current Police tour. This is a guy who has his own custom shop telecaster. That should tell you how good the axe is. By the way, the tele he plays is number one of the reproductions. The original is up in his attic.

well, theres a lot of discussion about these VG Strats. As far as I can tell (and I've played one), you get a strat with a whole lot more on the side. 37 different tones and 5 different tunings....thats brilliance right there.

I bought my VG Strat and it is awesome! It's like 6 guitars in one at a flip of a switch. To me it is worth the expense. If you bought all the guitars that the VG can model, you would spend over 3000$ or more. And if you get a G DEC amp with all its effects, you will have a small studio with one guitar and one amp.

PS

get rechargable batteries for the VG so that you a set of batteries for playing while the other set are charging. you could go thru a lot batteries and rechargble batteries are cheaper in the long run. dont get me wrong, the batteries last about 8 hrs, but why spend a fortune on non rechargables.

If I didn't have 10 guitars already I would get one. Think about what you're getting with the VG. It's best bang for the buck guitar out there.

I must admit the VG strat is a great guitar, but how many ppl know how to fix it? And how many ppl are willing to fix one for big bucks?

All you need is a good set of guitars that do exactly what they do best. NO bells, no whistles, just pure firepower.

PS, if you don't want that guitar, you should sell it cheap to someone who really really wants it, not too cheap, just cheap enough for it to be generous. Then, buy the highway strat with hb's. If you're looking for something to play on stage, it'll do it for ya!

Done preachin! :D

im looking at the vG too and its out of my price range right now but it is a lot of money and it has good quality but some people think that it isnt alll that its cracked up to be in tone and mimicking the other guitar sounds like humbucking and 12 string, i played it and it sounds great but if the tones of the other guitar sounds arent good i think that your better off getting a American strat for 900$$ or a american deluxe for 1200$$

I have come to find out that there are two kinds of guitar players, one player wants one guitar to do one thing well or the other player wants one guitar to do more than one thing well. The VG Strat Can do many things well in my opinion and is worth the money. But if you are looking for a deal on one, I suggest getting on good terms with your local guitar dealer and he/she may get you real good deal on one. The place where I bought all my guitars and amps; and have them worked on, gave me a great deal on my VG.

I think of it this way... lets say a strat is a cleaning lady, with that said the vg strat is like a robot that cleans, yes it gets the job done but it cant tell if its missed a spot. plus you cant date a robot.
