Looking to make some form of EVH style guitar. dont have the green for a musicman or charvel so thinking of getting a mex strat and adding a floyd rose and some new humbuckers.

Will a floyd rose fit into the cavity that is currently used for the 2 point trem's without modification?

It can be made ot fit there in the way that a humbucker can be made to fit in a single coil opening: with work and routing. And then there is the locking nut to consider.

Can be done, but beyond the skills of most players, including me  .

thanks. yea, i know with work you can make any bridge fit, but i was hoping i could just drop it in. i know some bridges share the same size/shape of a route cavity as a floyd rose so you can just drop the floyd in and go. not the case here it seems.

A friend of mine (years ago) put one it, but did minimal routing, however the trem was not floating but pushed down only. Later he redid it to make it floating but it took even more routing. To me, if you are going to do it, do it right or not at all. I'm sure you can find a tech to do it for you.

The FR Strat bodies show up on eBay. I would just grap one of those. This one is made of Ash and is only at $10 so far ...

Hello!

Definitely won't just drop in. The stud spacings on a floyd are 74.3mm and mex strat studs are 56-57mm (i think).

Its a lot of work. As Unhomed mentions you will need to fit a locking nut which will require skilled modification of your current neck

I agree with 01GT eibach. Get yourself a body with a floyd already routed out, a neck with a locking nut or space for one and build yourself an EVH Frankinstrat.

Job done!

Hope this helps

Andy

That body is horrible, even with the crappy picture that body looks like hell - no wonder its only $10. If you're gonna go that route (buy a body) do yourself a favor and get a Warmoth.

Thanks for the posts guys.

Im looking to make a nice hard rock machine, something with a floyd rose, couple of seymour duncan hum buckers and a slick look.

The charvel so-cal red ale guitar is the perfect look but it doesnt have the seymour duncans, and i dont like EMG's or demarios so no point in spending 1100 on a guitar just to modify it. lets see a pic of it anyway!

Might look at going the warmoth route, see if i can make a good guitar to my spec for a reasonable price (700-800 euro).

Look into Stew Mac as well as Carvin for bodies, Warmoth is good but very expensive, I would not router out a body that you paid $400 to $600, unless you have your own wood shop set-up

Have you considered a Trem King? There is a bit of routing inside the cavity to allow the trem to swing, but it will allow the guitar to remain stock looking. (aside from the new trem). The TK-1 will fit the 2 point spacing. I've got a guitar on the bench awaiting one of those. Unfortunately I can't be of any help on the install as of yet. But they do look like you will be able to pull up and down without having to recess the body.

The Deluxe Locking tremolo doesn't need those silly routing mods because it can be fitted easily on any Strat body having a regular tremolo cavity due to its size and feel to a normal American 2-point tremolo bridge. Unfortunately Fender has stopped making this product in 2007.

My only point was that they are out there to be found, not that I was in love with this particular body ...
