I think the topic should be named "your favorite overdrive pedal", since we are mostly vintage freaks ! :D I have a fulltone fulldrive 2 mosfet edition and a Boss OD 3, then there are those 8 tubes in my marshall 8)

Another Fulltone OCD. This overdrive does everything. Didn't believe it until I heard it.

I have several overdrive and distortion pedals but if I could only keep one, it would probably be my ProCo Turbo Rat. Great sound, versitile, true bypass and sturdy as hell.

Just curious if your DS1 is stock or modded? I scored a Keeley DS1 recently for dirt cheap and should have it by Saturday......can't wait!

My Digitech DF-7 for the fuzzy to crunchy stuff and my BOSS Metal Core for face melting thrash.

EHX English Muff'n tube pre-amp is my favourite. It just adds a switchable drive channel to my Vibroverb. Sounds like a great tube amp, with a TMB tone stack, love it!

Others I still have:

Fulltone OCD - was my favourite until I discovered the Muff'n is even more dynamic, harmonically rich, and real sounding.
Keeley Mod Blues Driver
Boss OD3 Keeley mod - but even stock it's my fave Boss dirt box.
Big Muff
Jimi Hendrix System Classic Fuzz - so under-rated, fantastic pedal.
Ibanez standard Fuzz (early 70s)
Boss DS1 - this was my first dirt box, and even though now it sounds kinda nasty and compressed to me it did the job for years. I was playing loud enough that the power tube saturation took the harsh edge off it anyway.
Vintage tube reel to reel machines, used as tube pre's - great for recording, and capable of sounding like vintage amps under extreme duress!

my danelectro cd1 distortion is awesome for acdc kinda stuff, was free, so even better.

it's a cheap pedal, but sounds good, and all metal construction.

Barber custom cool. It's a distortion/compressor with push/pull pots for boost on the tone and dynamics controls. And fully adjustible mini trem pots inside to attenuate the note shape, bass, mid, and presence. BUT a good 'ol ts-808 is a close second.

I have a JH2S Jimi Hendrix System Classic Fuzz as well--great for rich, bloomy articulate chords; it never gets muddy in tone...I love it!

Keith Richards did the old reel-to-reel pre-amp trick on many of the classic tracks from Beggar's Banquet & Let It Bleed...sounds fabulous with a highly compressed acoustic guitar...

I didn't know that about Keith, but if figures. I've always worked from the idea that anything with tubes in can yeild some kinda so-wrong-it's-right tone. Even if it wasn't made for guitar, figure out a way to play through it and you'll get some joy!

You're right about the JH2S Fuzz being articulate, you can still hear the individual notes within a chord. The other thing that amazes me about it too is how well it cleans up as you back off the vol on your guitar. It's very rare for a genuine Fuzz to have both those qualities. I bought it on a whim, because I like Fuzz and it was cheap, but as soon as I got it home it became my favourite Fuzz. I've had it for a few years, and keep trying out other Fuzzes thinking there must be some more 'authentic' or better built/designed ones, but nothing sounds better to me yet. I don't even use my Big Muff anymore.

I have a DS-1 with the Keely mod which I installed myself. It's more of a high octane OD than distortion now but it's also super loud so it really pushes some sounds out of tubes. I've also got a love affair going with Electro-Harmonics devices so I have the Little Big Muff Pi and my new favorite toy--Metal Muff With Top Boost.
