Now that I have my new Blues Jr NOS, my current trick bag consists of:
2009 Standard Strat SSS
Year yet to be determined but brand spanking new Blues Jr NOS
2008 Line6 Spider Jam
FBV Short Board for the Spider Jam.
Pandora PX4D (neat little box, but NOISY even on batteries)

My question comes down to
Pedals or Multi effects processor

I don't want to accumulate a 6 foot by 4 foot floor board full of pedals. I think I need a tuner (could use a intelitouch though), want/need a Boss Blues pedal, want a Wah wah and maybe a delay.

I could get all this, or at least simulate all this with a multi-effects board but I was wondering if this is any different from just using my Spider Jam rig? Would I do justice to my Blues Jr better with a few pedals or a multi effects processor?

Blues and classic rock. What do the experts say?

The one thing I can tell you is that after playing in bands for over 20 years I found myself using less and less effects. Toward the end all I used was my amp's footswitch for more or less gain and a wah wah pedal which I used more as an EQ than an effect.

Delay, phasers, flangers, et al are fun to play around with, but after awhile you decide what YOUR signature tone is and you stop changing it for every song.

By all means continue to experiment, though.

Currently I use pedals and a processor live. The processors rigged with certain delays, chorus's, pitchshift's and eq settings for particular songs. The processors noisegate is permanently on too (sounds like you could do with a noisegate). Theres a delay after the processor and a drive and wah before the processor. The wah is a necessity as the processors expression pedal is geared to activate or deactivate certain effects at certain points.

It's about 2ft across assembled, takes no time to set up and I only have to set 2 pedals because everything else is stored to memory. That lot goes straight into the front end of an amp, so room eq is taken care of on the amp.

I've used far more complex systems.

The processor is a digitech rp350. I dont recommend em. Their very hard to set up and have a load of nonsense things that you dont need.

Miami Mike gets killer sounds from his Korg unit (they really are top notch). He's probably conversant with what your using and he's always extremely helpful. Well worth picking his brain about setting them things up.

I love pedals personally. Even though I'm down to just five now. I'd love to try out the RP-1000. I think my next goal is to get the Jimi Wah and the Octavio. I think the key to effects is a good board like the SBK PS55 and of course how they're chained.

you're most likely to get more control over the parameters of the effect with individual stomp boxes, as well as, (IMO) a better sounding effect.

But if you need a few "basic" effects, including a tuner, a multi-effect unit is the way to go.

I'm a junkie for knobs and tweaking with stuff so I find that individual boxes are best for me.

Done both and find pedals easier to obtain the tones I am looking for .Used to use a Boss me 33 and rp7 I believe.Couldnt get the right sounds I wanted.Plus it was noisy and the patches were at different volumes. My pedals consist of a couple of od pedals,a tuner ,delay and occasionally a Rotovibe.

Honestly, pedals are THE way to go. Before I knew too much about guitars/gear, I got a multi effects and I don't even use the thing anymore. Like everyone was saying, keep the pedals simple. You honestly aren't going to need much. If you are looking for a boss blues pedals, I recommend the BD 2 Keeley modded pedal. Great sound. If you are up for anything, I really like a modded ts 808 and a Fulltone OCD. Both great versatile pedals. Either way, good luck with your gear.
