I haven't done any mods to my Strat, unless removing the white tip on the tremolo arm counts. I don't like buying guitars I have to modify in order to get it just how I want. However, I was thinking of putting a Texas Special pickup in the middle position.

ok guys, need some input here !
I'm thinking of changing pups on a 62 RI Strat. for a brighter sound.
Using Tex. Specials and am NOT happy with em.
I've readjusted pups, changed strings from 10s to 11s and just can't get what I wanna hear.

Questions::
1. Lace sensors? which combo ?
2. little 59 for bridge and leave the others alone ?
3. Hot rails ?

First thanks for all the info....

My probem with 9s.... I break em to easy... after using 10s and sometimes 11s for years I just break the 9s doing bends ,,, They are some brighter but still not satisfied with what I'm hearing ( or not hearing as the case may be).
I know , I know ,, I'm being ( seemingly ) hard to please .. am about ready to receive the word here to get gone and find somwplace else to lay my problems .. :(

But really don't what else to try..
I readjusted the pups using the nickel thing suggested yesterday, I really can't tell a whole lot of difference. I've tried 11s and got a fuller, thicker sound ( duh )
I've been told by three local guitar techs the Texas Specials are supposed to be high output ... apparently mine aren't .. I've got an Ibanez Talman with lipstick pups that are hotter...

I'm REALLY not trying to be a pain ... One guy at Guitar Center says to try Little 59 pickups ...??? any thoughts here ?

If you are going to do this wire the bridge and neck pickups into the same tone control.

The hot set up for that is a master volume, a master tone and a "blend" pot. It works like this...

[quote="ancient mariner"]I *like* my MIM strat. Mind you, it weighs about 6lb 12oz and plays like no other MIM I ever held. But that's a nice Warmoth strat you have Jim.

I swapped PUs (GFS non-stagger grey bottoms) and electronics, guard, cast steel saddles, Wilkinson tuners. May eventually bung a wilkinson trem + steel block in there. It's also wired with the lower tone control as a blender for the neck pickup in pos 4 and 5.

Yup, it's missing a string from a gig the weekend before this pic was taken. 8)

how do you like those gfs pups?

My MIM mods are pretty much done. It has different knobs, a custom pickguard and Vintage Noiseless pickups.

My Squier mods are about halfway done. It has a different pickguard, Texas Specials, and .12's. It's going to need a new tremolo, and possibly new tuning machines.

When that one's done I'm going to start on my Squier Tele. :)

I just have straplocks for now on my 50's strat. I like it enough as is for now. I think I'm gonna start with some pick ups in the squier to see how it turns out and debate from there.

So far its just 5 springs and a callaham trem block for me. I really dig the sound of the stock pickups, so I'm going to leave them in for a couple of years and see how long I can hold off on the CS 69's...

I think that now I've got it pretty much exactly how I want it. Here's some pics from the Callaham switch:

2008 MIM Standard, sounds like gold.
