Ok,
I've been playing Gibsons all these years, and I've always loved the sound and looks of a Strat!

I finally got one, and it sounds great...but one question....Should I consider swapping out the pickups? Like I said, it sounds nice the way it is.
I want that classic Strat Sound, NOT the humbucker sound.

I have a pic of it here, will get better pics later!

The pickups in it are pretty good actually (I have this same strat)
I ended up changing them out because I have a very noisy (electrically) house and the hum was pretty bad (got dimarzio Area '58 and '61). I wouldn't change them unless you have a similar issue.
One interesting thing I found when changing the pickups is that the 5-way swich actually selects the Neck and Bridge pickups in what is normally the Neck and Middle position. This is a favorite combination of a lot of people, but I missed the Neck+Middle sound, so wired in in the traditional combinations with the new pickups.
This strat comes stock with a 5-way superswith so all kinds of wiring combos are possible.

I might end up getting a push pull pot for the volume to give me a "Neck On" switch to get that special combination back when I want it.

This is a great guitar.

Yes, indeed it is! Maybe I'll just stay with the stock pups then.
I can't believe how good this guitar is especially for the money!

It's really gorgeous, too.

When I got mine, I spent the whole afternoon in Guitar center trying out different guitars (I stayed until they closed) and this one was my favorite.
Honestly I didn't even plug it in, I chose by feel and by putting my ear up to the wood to hear how it resonated. Guitar Center is usually too loud to properly test out an instrument plugged in anyway.

In addition to the pickups I also changed out a tone knob for a midrange shaper. This is the best upgrade I made in my opinion. With that you can get more of that Big Dipper pickup sound when you want it.

Hi,
I gotta ask - I can't seem to get your thumb nails to open to a larger picture, but is your guitar a classic series 50's or the classic player 50's? I have a CP 50 and love it (sunburst). I love the pu's. Like you, I am a humbucker kind of guy. First I bought a standard Tele and then I bought my CP 50. Love it!

I can see the pictures just fine and it's definitely the Classic Player '50s Stratocaster.

Maybe we should start a fan club for this model :)

Hi Eddie,
I just checked again and now I see it. It is a beaut! Yes, I agree we should start a fan club. Like you, I played a number of guitars unplugged, and this was the winner. I am pleased with many features, but the neck is my favourite. The neck is a perfect fit for me.

Do you find that many are confusing the Classic Series 50 with the Classic Player?

Start the CP 50's club!! :D

Hi! I have the classic series, not the player. I like the neck better on the series and it was a bit less expensive.

I'll try to post this pic

Damn, sorry about that. I should have noticed that it didn't have the two point trem (the big visual difference).
Mine is the '50s Player. It looks very similar, but has the two point trem (with vintage style saddles) and a different neck radius.

Hey HeadZep - I checked all the classics and didn't see any available in shoreline gold with maple neck. These photos are of a classic player 50's strat IMHO.

My bad - right, vintage bridge - now I'm really cornfused - I guess it is an earlier classic?

Hey, what gives, man? I've just come upon this thread and, like others, am immediately confused by that picture. A 50s Classic bridge in a 50s Classic Player body finish. Strange.

The wiring diagram for the "50s Stratocaster" definitely doesn't show a superswitch on the five-way. Can't find a diagram for the Classic Player.

The fingerboard radius would nail it. The Classic is 7.25, the Classic Player is 9.5. Got a radius gauge handy, HedZeppelin?

There's geeky types out here gotta know...
