That's not a very reassuring answer. "Custom built" can be anything from a partsocaster built from genuine Fender components to something he banged together in the garage from who-knows-what. Unless the guy can give you more than just this one blurry photo, I'd be inclined to keep on walkin'. 8)

Looks like one of these with what is probably a swapped decal.

I may be wrong about this for some models, but all my Fenders, from the 1973 Mustang to the 2008 HSS Strat have a S/N on them somewhere. And they're all in a visible place ... so I'd be very suspicious of this deal.

Looks like it says Cyclone on the headstock, but it's hard to tell reading through the blur. If it is it's definately not the original neck. If it's a real Strat body and a Cyclone neck it is technically all Fender. Still wondering about the missing serial though.

The Cyclone decal wasn't written in the 70's style. Unless it is a knockoff.

I think a sharper photo of the neck would help out.
IMHO I think it looks like a Squier with a 70's Logo. I agree , keep walking.....and looking, Let us know what you come up with . Good Luck!

I agree the body is most definately from Squier 50's Classic Vibe, I'd recognize that awful excuse of a gold anodized pickguard anywhere. But the neck is not original to the guitar. Notice the bullet truss rod, large decal, and large 70's headstock? Maybe the neck came off a MIM 70's reissue? Why are craigslist sellers always the worst photographers?

If it's cheap and nearby, why not stop and have a look at least?
