Hi all, a friend of mine just bought a parted-out Fender Dave Murray Artist strat body off of Ebay. The body came without the pickguard (therefore no pups, electronics, hardware, etc.).

He wants to rebuild it to the factory specs (as far as wiring, pups, etc.) I was stoked when I found this page on Fenders website: http://www.fender.com/support/wiring_di ... _lists.php

Unfortunetly, no Dave Murray diagram or other downloads for it are even listed.

I was just wondering how long before Fender updates this list so we can download a wiring diagram and parts list?

Thanks!

Welcome.

Try e-mailing:

tech@DiMarzio.com

Explain your situation and see if they can assist you. If they can't, get back to me and I'll give you a breakdown of what parts you need and refer you to a similar Fender wiring diagram. Your only problem will be finding the middle pickup as it is not sold separately. You'll either have to e-Bay for it or substitute a Fender 57/62 Strat pickup instead. Here too though, to just buy one, you'll probably be e-Baying for it as well.

I will email DiMarzio, thanks for your help!

Way ahead of you, we've got Ebay to thank for that as well. :) We're using a Fender Texas Special single coil for the mid position (RWRP, not that it matters for this strat from what I understand.).

This is our parts list so far:
Oak Grigsby 3-way blade switch (x1)
Mallory (.001 uF) Treble bleed capacitor (x2)
AP Vitamin Q Oil & Paper (.022 uF, 400V) Capacitor (x2)
CTS 250k Split-shaft Potentiometer, Tone (x2)
RS Guitarworks Split-shaft 280k 'SuperPot', Volume (x1)
Switchcraft 1/4" Output Jack (x1)
DiMarzio DP100 'Super Distortion' Humbucker, F-Spaced, Bridge (x1)
DiMarzio DP103 'PAF 36th Anniversary' Humbucker, F-Spaced, Neck (x1)
Fender Custom Shop Texas Special single-coil Mid, Middle (x1)

...And a pickguard to put it all on, of course. :) Thanks again for the help, we're electrical idiots, but have a pretty good grasp of soldering things - we just need a picture to (hopefully) put it all together. The capacitors and their placement (do we even have correct values?) frankly mystify us.

You may have to wire that RWRP texas special in reverse to get it to match polarity with the humbuckers. Otherwise you'll get some horrible sounds on positions 2&4.

Its a 3-way switch Nik, no positions 2 & 4. ;)

(P.S. I love Ceri's thread about the 'Phoenix'!)

Your list essentially looks fine.

Note that only one .022uF cap will suffice for both tone pots. Also, you MAY want to consider a 1/4 watt, 150 ohm resistor in parallel with that .001uF cap. The resistor will keep the circuit from getting too trebly as the volume is turned down.

Wiring wise, you can use this diagram with two minor modifications:

http://www.dezirae.com/dezzie/sunn/stand2h1s.gif

First modification: See the right side of the pickup selector switch? There is one unused terminal. Solder a jumper wire from that terminal to the terminal directly below it.

Second modification: Wire your .001 cap (and optional 150K resistor in parallel) from the left terminal to the middle terminal of the volume pot.

Any questions, just yell!
