Post subject: How do I know I didn't get a copy with a MIA Neck?

I am looking at a 2002 MIA Strat and I have issues with a few things. The most major of them is:
The neck plate has nothing on it and no hole for adjustment. This concerns me but I am relitively new to the Strat forums and don't know what I should be looking for in a 2002 MIA Strat. Also it appears that the color is more teal than the new greens. I could see this if it was a ninties Strat.
I have not taken the pick guard off to look at anything yet but I need to know:
1. What I am looking for in a 2002 MIA Standard Strat?
2. Did they make a teal in 2002?
3. Is there a way that I can match the neck to the body?

All I want is a MIA Strat the original guitar, I asked if it was original and he says "As far as I know" The pickguard still has the plastic on it.

Please help.

Without comparing the neck pocket to the heel theres little chance of determining what the body is.

What model guitar is it. Not all models have the microjilt thing.

It appears to be just a basic strat. But the first thing that I noticed was the neckplate had no hole. He doesn't state what model it is, he just says american strat shows some pics and a serial on the neck and thats it.

Can you post a link to the pics? Is this a Craigslist / Ebay item?

Here is a thread discussing a 2002 strat. Maybe it will help you. The specs are listed a few post down the thread.
http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... 3909c0d4d1

It list a teal green color at the bottom of the spec list. Good luck! :)

We need pics!!
Until I see a pic, I'm just guessing....a Highway 1, which has a blank neckplate and no micro-tilt feature. Does the body have a matte finish? How many string trees does your headstock have? If it's two, you got yourself a 2002 Highway 1 (they used to have 2 string trees back then). Highway 1's are MIA. You might be confusing this with a 2002 American Series. There are many MIA Strat models.

You need to ask the seller what model it is. It looks like it could be a 57RI, but I cant for the life of me remember one in that colour.

IMO, "partscasters" have become more and more sophisticated and in turn, successfully deceptive in terms of being passed off as the real thing. I'm not saying that this is the case here but nowadays it seems that unless one knows the entire history of a particular Strat or buys it from a highly trustworthy source, the subject guitar has to be dissected by someone with superior knowledge of Strats in order to verify said guitar is in fact, what it is supposed to be. It truly is a shame but it is clearly a sign of the times. YMMV.

No problem! Mystery solved. It's a Highway 1.
$650 is too high.

If it was a 57RI, there would be only 21 frets, less pickguard screws, and 1-ply pickguard. It's a Highway 1 with the very unpopular green color that was soon discontinued. I think the seller doesn;t even know what it is.
