OK again I ask why were the other brand of guitars that I played not in this condition, I am going back tonight and have them bring me a guitar from the back that has not been hanging in the store, I hope I'm wrong or maybe just got a bad run of guitars from Fender, another thing why are you people taking this so personally I'm not bitching about you just the guitars I played at Guitar Center and by the way Guitar Center is supposed to represent Fender guitars would it not be in Fender's best interest to make sure the guitars hanging in the store were properly set up so that potential customers are not scared away by these problems, and one more time can we leave the the childish comments out of this you know we aren't in third grade anymore all I want to do is purchase a new guitar and silly me I prefer to get at least a little value for my money, and so far everyone here wants to blame anyone but Fender and if this turns out to be the case great but I need to know for myself.

Fender QC in my opinion is at it's highest.

When I purchased my 08 MIA Standard Strat, the GC where I purchased from commented that due to the economy crashing over time...Fender had to not only maintain high standard but also improve on that high standard to keep sales at the level required by Fender.

Mate I think Fender's QC is flawless at the moment.

I have a solution for you!! Buy a Schecter. I don't know what you want us to say. Have the store setup the Fender and try it out and if you still don't like it buy another one you like. Why come on the Fender forum and your first post is a poll asking a Fender online community if Fenders are not as good as they claim? :?

The way a guitar is setup is a personal thing. Everyone likes their guitar setup to what is comfortable to them individually. When looking to buy a guitar you should be looking for good quality parts ,finish and fit. Not the setup as that is up to you.

Yes because it is THE SHOP'S responsibility to set the guitars up. Everything you mention is a set up issue, not a quality issue.

If you have any problem understanding any part of that sentence I will gladly try and explain it in a more simplified term.

I AGREE the setup is a personal thing, if you dont know how to setup your own guitar you cant talk about setups.I have to say something here, i dont think fender quality is going down but i think its time to rise the quality just a little bit on the economic products. Some parts of strats are not enough even for a economic serie.

BUT $@!& ALL THESE WORDS... theres nothing better than buy a strat and do your own mod, so in the end it doesnt matter if the setup is bad or if the trem block is not enough for your taste, CHANGE IT its a proyect and it make life GOOD...

FENDER is "THE" electric guitar... love fender... love strats...

He is my deal with guitar stores. in general i am not a fan of guitar center. they seem to have many many many strats and les pauls. then a few other brands and makes. but mostly strats and les pauls, because that is what sells. whenever i enter a GC i'm approched by three or four sales people (which would sound good but its like dogs looking for meat). then when i go to get a guitar the strings are alway super old and flat. i get that it is not really cost effective to change the strings on 100's of guitars but if the strings are bad and the guitar sounds bad because of that factor i'm probably not going to buy it. this is the main problem i encouter with strats at guitar center. and its not just fenders, its all makes and models. But in general i believe that fender's quality has actually gone up not down.

OK, I went back to Guitar Center and as stated I had the salesman go in the back and grab an unopened Fender American Standard Strat I watched him open the box we tuned the guitar and plugged it in to Deluxe VM Combo and again the B string and the high E strings were dead this time anywhere past the 7th fret I asked the salesman about it and he said this was not exactly uncommon I then asked him to bring me a Squire Classic Vibe Tele and this thing played like a dream no fret buzz to speak of nice action great finish and a really nice neck so I guess it's not all bad, I still can not understand the hostility I'm just trying to gather information for the purchase of a new guitar if I were having these same problem with a cheap guitar brand no one here would have a problem with that but because it's Fender I get attacked for asking legitimate questions before laying down $1000.00 or more

I suggest that if you are happy with the Squire, buy it...

I also suggest that you may now need to move on from this topic and try to enjoy a positive forum experience.

Unless people are guru's at reading minds, the chat forums are and will always be a thing of debate and heated moments.

Text can be misread quite easily if the author is not to great at keeping on topic accurately.

Don't fear it will get better only if you don't take it too personally..

Good Luck...

thats strange.....last year i went to GC and bought a 2008 Am. Std. and a 2008 Am. Deluxe they was set up fine (i did take them to my luther and have him set them up the way i wanted them) then just last firday i went to GC and got a 2010 Deluxe (and this one is even set up to my liking) so i would have to say a BIG NO.....also $100 for a set-up?.....i would look for another tech if i was you.

With a new guitar, a professional set-up should be a given. Once you can see what their techs/luthiers can do, that brings you back in for that $30 to $100 "professional" setup in the future.

If the store is not willing to do a complimentary 1st time set up, I would find another store to do business with. I can purchace a guitar from anyone, I could even buy one on-line. It is that personal service that brings me into the store for buying instruments.

To the orginal poster, sorry you have not had a good experience with Fender Guitars. I personally love them. I always post this on there:

When buying a new guitar, play as many as you can within your price range, all makes and models. The "one" will make itself known. I hope you find "the one" whether it is a Schecter, Gibson, PRS, ESP, or Fender or their budget companies.
