The store where I go to buy most of my gear (Reid Music,Mt. Pearl,NL.) and all my Fender gear always does complete setups on guitars before they go out in the showroom.I've found that in the past few years the quality control at Fender is way beyond what it was.I've been playing Fender gear since '74 and in the 70s quality control was so bad that you were better off buying an older Fender than a new one,I bought a 65 Strat in 74 because it was far superior to a new one.You went into a store where any kid can wander in off the street with no intention of buying and bash away at a $1,000 + guitar for hours and do untold damage to it.With all these people pawing over guitars it's a wonder that any are playable and more aren't wrecked.I think it's you or the store's liberal policy about letting anyone have a go at the guitars not Fender.

Here we go again.

The quality of Fender instruments are by leaps and bounds, the best they've ever been regardless of the various dynasties. I've seen many Fender instruments as they are taken right out of their shipping boxes direct from Fender and overall, Fender has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Rather, they should be mighty proud of themselves. It is once these instruments get thrown into an environment where the guitars are abused, neglected and experimented on by unadulterated hacks posing as service personnel that unfortunately Fender gets the bad rep for what many a prospective customer presumes to be Fender's factory standard operating procedure or lack thereof. And let's face it, these types of dealerships aren't going to admit they are the root cause of these instruments having fallen into these oftentimes, outright disgraceful conditions.

Fender did their job and realistically, they cannot visit or even monitor every one of their dealerships on the face of the earth to ensure that all their instruments are in factory fresh condition in spite of the fact that all of their dealerships are presumed to be maintaining a certain standard. This is simply not reality. It all comes down to the individual dealerships and is a direct reflection on said dealerships, NOT Fender. So, the next time one plays a phenomenal Fender in the store, presume that it either just got there direct from Fender or that particular dealership has the superior pride and skills to maintain their inventory. Conversely, the next time one plays a 'dog' Fender, refer to the prior paragraph. And no, I don't work for Fender.

Not dealing with a Stat., but I just got a Precision Bass through Sam Ash. In the box from Fender. Perfect out of the box as I expected. I can't believe the Strat., pride of the Fender Guitars leaving with that poor of a setup on that many axes.

The Strat may very well be the "pride of Fender Guitars" as you've stated but as I've stated above, Fender is not to blame for the abysmal conditions of same due to the lack of pride among some of their dealerships. As a matter of fact, your recent bass purchase (and congratulations by the way) has reinforced my point.

Hi Martian; thanks man. I agree with you totally on what Fender guitars and basses go through when they go on the floor.

I agree, its not Fenders fault.Just go to GC on any given day and see the abuse these instruments take. Some store I have gone to dont even keep them in tune, others have someone come in and tune them up on a regular basis.I have bought 2 strats (a SRV and a 08 MIA Standard ) online and out of the box they were pretty good. The SRV was more than pretty good.

No. I cannot say I have had as many QC issues as some other people have had. Of course when I do find a seriously flawed guitar, no matter the brand, I let the shop know about it. They usually take it off the floor.

OK first I do no appreciate the smartass answers or being called a troll which I am not this just happens to be my first post and like it or not my points are valid there is no way that every Fender guitar I played should be in this condition the Schecter's were in the same store being played by the same people at guitar center and they played perfectly fine if anything this only proves my point if these guitars can't take a few people playing them what are they going to be like after a month of two hour sets five nights a week, I'm not trying to bash Fender for the sake of bashing them I happen to really like Fender guitars but there is no way they are checking these before they leave the factory some of them had very high action some were so low the strings were resting on the fretboard these are just simple facts that can not be denied I was there I played them for almost two hours and it is what it is, by the way while I was there I purchased the new G-DEC 3 30 which is a fantastic sounding practice amp with actual bands playing the backing tracks not crappy MIDI files, now can we stop with the childish crap and carry on an adult conversation.

OK so the guitar passes quality control, sits in a warehouse for a week or so. Gets shipped a few hundred miles through varying climates. Then probably sits in a distribution center for a week, then lands at your guitar shop.
They take it out the case and hang it on the wall, knowing that it plays badly and hasnt been set up.

What is the correct conclusion.

1, It's fenders fault. The guitar shipped like that, it was like it when it left the factory. There has been no change in the guitar due to its varying climates. They retailer does not have any responsibility to ensure that the guitar plays it's best and should just hang up what comes out the box.

2 The retailer should have set the guitar up, after all they have to have special training to sell guitars from the big 3 these days. They also have to use fender recognised tech's. Displaying a poor playing guitar is just another symptom of poor middle management. The typical halfwits that cant think their way out of lunchtime. Really the manager of said store should be fired as their obviously not capable of retail work. Offering obviously bad product is a kids mistake.

BTW first post eh? I dont suppose you get invited to many parties do you. It's really not good manners to introduce yourself then immediately start whining about the canapes.
