I just returned from guitar center where I played no less than ten Fender guitars from the $499.00 Mexican Strat to the $1700.00 US made Strats and every one of them was absolutely unplayable, any note past the twelfth fret on the G, B, and A strings was dead resting flat against the fretboard, are we expected to pay this much for a guitar and then have to have a professional set up the guitar with the hope that it even can be setup and spend an extra $100.00 I just don't get it, I then tried 4 or 5 Schecter guitars and all of them were set up well with no string buzz and they payed like butta and made the Fender's feel like a joke, just wondering if anyone else has saw this I wanted a new Fender but not any of the new ones I guess I will start checking Craigslist.

That sounds very strange. I don't have anywhere near the experience of other members here but multiple guitars having problems like that? I'm happy to say I haven't had that here.

I've noticed that most/all of the strats I've played in the couple of GC's near me are tuned flat, to make them easier on the fingers for noobies? They're still in 'tune' but the strings are a little loose. :?:

But I haven't seen any problems with the guitars.

I think regardless most people get a setup done after buying a new guitar. Guitars that are on the wall in guitar center get played so much and abused it is difficult to find one that is set up just right.

Sounds like they had crappy set ups to me, and you can't blame an entire company for a crappy set up. I actually think that Fender's quality keeps getting better and better.

Buying a guitar is a bit like buying a bicycle. The seat will need to be adjusted to the individual's need. Same for the handlebars. The tires might need to be properly inflated before taking it out for a spin. The brakes might even need to be adjusted. Who's responsibility are these adjustments? Depends where you buy the bike! The level of service you get from one dealer to the next can vary from one extreme to the other. That doesn't make the bike a bad bike if one needs more adjustment than another. The Strat more than any other guitar in my opinion is the sum of its parts. Get those parts adjusted to the player's needs and the sum of a Stratocaster is ONE FINE INSTRUMENT. No. Fender is doing a better job making quality instruments than ever before.

You have to think about where you are playing them and how many other people have played them.

Personally I wouldn't buy a guitar from GC.

Not at all, I only use good guitar shops.

If you dont have the sense to use a decent shop, you need to question the validity of your opinion, and whether its of any benefit to a online community.

A shop with 15-20 guitars poorly set up, yet on display. Just does not have a manager with good business sense.

How many Fenders do you own?
I've been playing Strats for around 40 years and the new ones are nice compared to the old ones....plenty of people beat on guitars at GC every day, most I have heard can't play much...that's why the cheaper ones are on the lower racks where they can grab them.
I agree,this is a rerun.
