Hi to everybody,

I recently bought a Stratocaster sold as a Tokai Strat. It has Tokai parts on it but I am wondering about the neck. I has the typical Fender date stamp on the neck butt. Could you take a look at this guitar to dtermine what it is. Is it original? What would you say?

Thanks for your answers!

Here is a link to a post in the Tokai forum with all the pictures:

His neck:

One from Vintage Guitars info, one of the best sites:

one from VGI (again):

I think we need guys like Martian Cvilliera and Orvilleowner to weigh in here.

It certainly looks like it could be an old fender neck, or more likely a reissue. but I'm not sure at all. The trussrod on his looks a little low, and too recessed to me, but I'm not sure how tight the tolerances were, if they were all the same, or if they had some differences unit to unit.

I dont think its a fender neck. The truss adjustment hole is too low down.

Here you are Floyd.

Now will you sell me your guitar?

If you surround that HTTP address with codes instead of the codes i used above to create the link, it should display the image.

If your using Firefox you can copy it directly by right clicking it and selecting copy image location. Or with I.E you can right click and select save to (I always save to desktop. My desktops like the scrapyard of desktops) then upload to photobucket from there.

Doesn't look like a real Fender Neck, certainly not made in 65, but it still looks cool, I love those vaneer fingerboards.

Do us a favor though and get those frets re-seated and crowned and a new nut cut.

Yes, your are right. The frets are in a very poor condition. I think I will refret it.

The bottom line to this is you knew what you were buying either it be a Fender neck or not. If it plays good and sounds good that is all that matters. Tokai made really good guitars and a lot of them are highly sought, so as long as you paid a good price I think you did fine.

Yes, you are right. I did a fretjob today and put new strings on. The guitar is very light (3,25 kg) and has nitro laquer on neck and body. It came with Lindy Fralins Vintage Hot in neck and middle and a Fralin steel poled 43 in bridge position. A Fender Case was also included. The price was allright and it sounds quite good I would say. In a long run it should be refretted though.

But I still wish I would know what exactly it is and what is the story about the neck stamp.

Thanks for your help so far.

I would like to see this neck in person. The ink and stamp look correct the logo and patents num# are correct. And they look like the right kluson tuners.

It looks like it had two string trees and somebody took it of and closed the hole. Fenders had only one, right?
