I think with any neck, you need to test drive it personally.

I had a MIK Ash Lite with soft V, did not care for, seemed TOO pointed.

I have MIM 50s Classic Player that for a long time, I honestly thought was kind of a modern/chunky C profile. One day l I read the specs on it, gave it a closer look, and discovered it was a soft v. Still having a kind of love/hate relationship with that one.

Also have a soft V American Deluxe and that is the one for me (not because MIA or anything, just feels the best for MY hand).

please offer your opinion , played a deluxe with the v neck and thought it felt good !

Picking up where niki and others have left off....The Deluxe is generic Fender V-neck. Go out and audition a Clapton, ([preferably a CS as opposed to an Artist); Dave Murray, '57HR, and compare. Niki's got his '57HR on my urging. IMHO: two best necks in the company are on the Clapton and the '57HR.

Would you happen to know if the Artist Clapton V neck is the same profile as the Am Deluxe? I cannot find a Clapton around here to compare

The Clapton neck is like no other in the Fender line. The closest is the "57HR. The Clapton neck is a much less chunkier feeling neck than the standard 'soft V-neck' Fender has on the following Strats: AM Deluxe, Buddy Guy, Jimmy Vaughn. The '57HR is a close second.

Thumb overs prefer V's I have had many over the years and still have one now(57 reissue) and I like the v's. I must admid though the most confortable to me is the one on my 88 plus. I do hawever very much dig the V's. as for blues playing its just the Shite. Soft or hard? I never really paid that much attention. The only significant dif for me is some over the years the point of the v stuck way out and was uncomfortable. Especially if it required a lot of hand rolling to overcome. summation? I like V's. Determination. Play them yourself and decide for yourself as its going to be your guitar.

That would also be an example of the Fender generic soft -V I've noted above. The OP should look at the LTD Clapton thread on the ME Forum. Someone's fitted a CS Clapton neck to a guitar done as a project instrument. Lace Sensors but not a Clapton circuit. Back of the neck photo gives a good idea of how its shaped.

If the one on my 57RI is a soft V,I really like it,I'm a thumbover blues guy myself no matter what I play, the V fits the palm of my hand perfectly.

Ditto on that and understand why. You might find the Clapton neck even more preferable then.

Ditto on that and understand why. I've owned three guitars with that neck carve as well as two Claptons. You might find the Clapton neck even more preferable then.

the only disadvantage of a V neck
is you can't fret with thumb playing on it
it hurts

I do that too. I played a deluxe V at GC the other day.... but there was no sound coming out of the guitar... So I put it down and backed away slowly... :?

Which is why I won't buy a guitar off the wall unless I really love it, it hasn't been hard worn by the headbangers, and there's another 15% in it for me. 8)

I am with most of you. My 89 Clapton Strat is very comfortable. I played it last night for about 4 hrs straight and it was really a nice change from the Strat Plus C shape. But not nearly as big a V as my 52 Tele...but like most of this guitar stuff, preference is really the call! :)
