Ok....Few weeks ago bought the sweet 57 reissue white and gold strat..

My question is, it comes with the 3 way switch.....It also comes with a 5 way from fender to install.I also bought a new pick guard for it. I have good sodering skills, Should I do this myself ? Do I need to take the strings off ? Pull the neck off? Should I replace strings if I take them down ? Use fenders bullets again ? Or use Slinkys that I use on other strats ? Never really worked on my own stuff...But the stores are packed with work in the Boston area...

Sorry for all the questions........

Peace Yota

I wanted that Strat. But MF was all out of them. But I got a great deal on my EJ Strat.

Good luck with your switch exchange.

if you feel confident enough to solder you self then do it

you need to take the strings of becous you have to remove the pickguard you dont have to take your neck of....

you can use tha same strings but i recommend changing them and ofcourse you can take ernie ball's on the strat theres no law against that

Since you said you've never worked on your on stuff before I'd say don't start with this one.

Use the same strings as they sound great, but that's me. Can I ask you why you wanted a 57 if you're going to change the single ply pick guard?

I got the same guitar for my birthday, but I had so many problems I had to return it to the store last night. Mine was already yellowed from lighting, had a stain from the store. I hated parting with her, but she was just as much of a pain as I am.

Well a pickgaurd is not going to change any thing on a 57 except changing to a 3 ply pick....I have had no issues with mine, it is spot on after set up...Not a single blem in mine....To bad you had to return it...Good luck finding another. The 3 way is ok, but need the 5 way... Best axe I have...Wanted a 57 because I can.....LOL....

Yota,
I replaced my 3-way to 5-way on the same guitar... Never did it before and never really soldered correctly before but (thanks to soldering tips on youtube) it went fine... I put new strings on mine after the switch. Your choice...

Some tips - Screw the 5-way switch onto the pickguard first then solder one wire at a time -taking one off the old switch and putting it in the same place on the new switch). The wires go in the exact same place on either switch.

Put a towel over the body of the guitar so you don't accidently touch it with the soldering iron.

Also, don't over tighten the screws when you put the pickguard back on!

That's it. Piece of cake.

I bought the same guitar and love it, not a flaw on it. Not going to change anything on it, yet! Was your pick guard edge flat or beveled? I thought they came beveled, but mine has a flat edge.

The pickguard edges on mine are flat too. Got it a few weeks ago and I'm absolutely in love!

Does any one know how many of the American Vintage 1957 Commemorative Stratocaster were made?

They were supposed to be made until the end of this year, but I was told by Fender " So sorry we're sold out, no more will be made." Only Fender can answer your question on how many were made.

One of my dream guitars. I understand the you can get some great 50's tones by positioning the selecter in between either side of the middle position.
