Hi guys,
Need a bit of help, got my first fender today, a deluxe roadhouse strat, really nice guitar!

However when I began playing I noticed something strange, it appears that at the factory, the tone pot and one of the volume pots were put on in place of each other. As when I turn the tone pot, it kills the volume, and obviously when I adjust the volume, I get a different tone.

Is this something anyone has come accross before and is it easy enough to change them over myself or should I send it back to the store?

Also, I've noticed in positions 1 & 5, when rolling off what should be the tone pot, I get no difference in tone at all. Positions 2, 3 & 4 are all responsive, but 1 & 5 give me no difference at all. Is this correct for a strat or is it another fault?

Any help appreiciated

Thanks

Luke

And it's not just the knobs right? Does it go Volume towards the front of the guitar, then tone, and then the 2nd toneat the back of the guitar?

Yeah just the pots as far as I can see. And no it has only one tone and two volume.

Tone pot is nearest the bridge pickup followed by two volume pots.

Ok Should be 2 tone knobs and 1 volume knob, so maybe one of the tone knobs broke or got lost and they put another volume knob on it. Or I've seen pics where they put 2 volume knobs on by mistake from the factory.

As long as it's wired correctly, you just need to switch out the middle volume knob to a tone knob.

As far as the the tone on the pickups go, not sure how that model is wired.
Usually the bridge pickup isn't wired to a tone control. The first tone knob (the middle of the 3 knobs) changes the tone on the front pickup, and the 2nd tone knob (the last of the 3 knobs) changes the tone on the middle pickup.

Just plugged the guitar in again, I see I should infact have two tone pots. But instead I have one tone and two volume pots put on the wrong way round!

Checked each position, and I get the following results.

Position 5 (neck) - Tone pot 2 alters tone
Position 4 - Tone pots 2 & 1 alter tone
Position 3 - Tone pot 1 alters tone
Position 2 - Tone pot 1 alters tone
Position 1 - Neither pot alters the tone

Is this correct and is it just the fact pot covers have been used?

Thanks for your help with this Jason, it appears I just need to get another tone labelled pot and have them all switched over.

Not sure if the online store I bought it from can help or if I need to contact Fender.

Can't believe they come with a signed quality control tag yet miss something as obvious as this!

You can just get a set of knobs at like guitar center, pots sound like they're fine. Just need to take the knob off, which is sometimes hard on a new guitar.

Or you can just leave it, doesn't affect the playing, just labeled wrong.

yeah that's correct. So nothing wrong with the wiring or the pots, like I said, just a wrong knob. They pop on and off.
