Many people covet the Japanese Strats. They are supposed to be really high quality instruments.

Hello!

I had a 1984-87 MIJ strat with a Kayler spider trem (nasty trems IMO) that sounded great. The rosewood fret board was one of the best i've ever played. It also had stainless steal frets which after 20 or so years had lasted pretty well. I sold it in the end as I hated the kayler trem. If it didn't have the trem it would have been worth twice as much as I sold it for.

Still, a great Strat.

Hope this helps

Andy

I love my 85 MIJ Strat!! It has a wonderful neck on it. The only problem I've got with it (and it's not that bad) is that the 60 cycle hum is a little louder than my MIA Strats. Nothing that I can't live with though because when you grab it and start playing it all but disappears!!

Forum member CAFeathers also known here as Chet has a collection of them and I consider him our expert on MIJ Strats!!! 8)

MIJ Fenders are great guitars and especially the models from the 80s. As I like Chet also own 3 MIJ Fenders except all 3 of mine are Teles.

No problem with MIJ Strats other than a lot of negative BS that goes around about them. All that I have played have been great.

I have 4 of them...

There is nothing wrong with MIJ or CIJ for that fact.

Still great quality guitars.

Here is my latest installment of MIJ..

To repeat much of what's been said already... they're great guitars. The quality of the fit and finish is on par with American Strats (IMO). I've owned many over the years and my current partscaster (my main guitar) has a MIJ body and bridge. Some of the low end models use a basswood body... maybe not to everyone's liking. Even the pickups are generally quite good...often times Texas Specials come stock in the vintage models.

They're great guitars...'nuff said.

I've own several and worked/played on many, both old and new. Granted, all guitars have their quirks, origin specific and otherwise. However, in terms of the, "big picture", I can't say that I've seen any outright duds with any of the Japanese stuff.
