Not really. What I have done is, doing research as accepting it as urban legend until proven otherwise. In dealing with legal matters, as well as in dealing with guitars , one has to get past the circumstantial, to the factual. And with Fender guitars there are a lot of urban legends.

I do not know how many guitar stores I have seen that have told a customer this Strat is and then they rattle off some color that does not exist. In this case, there are almost no references to Bahama Green really existing other than a website from France, and obscure reference about Fender having it as an option for a short time for some of their Bass guitars years ago, and the fact that Eric Heatherly owning one ( and could have been misinformed by a well meaning guitar sales person or private individual. After all that is how a lot of urban legends get started!) All not great proof for winning case in court! But I am convinced about, 80% Fender might have had a few that were called this and that the color, as admitted by some, was a shade off of some of the Sea Foam Green Strats.

I am not trying to be a know it all or disprove anything. I would simply like to see a real Fender color chart (not something typed up off the internet) that listed the #17 Bahama Green. Then I could rest assured that my quest was really found! No offense to anyone!

...a color that doesn't exist. Like that icestorm finish? That's an urban legend. You got the only one.

Maybe someone will get lucky and find another one at an estate sale.

...or a body shop in the pacific northwest.

Hey James, I wonder if we could actually be friends if we met? Maybe we could talk to each other in reasonable way. I get out to Colorado on a regular basis. Like to talk some time?

Here's a photo of a 1988 colour list

Xhefri, Have you ever seen a name like this inside the body of any of the many late 80s strats you've owned?

Just curious, thanks if you can help.

The color list looks legit. -517 Bahama Green

Icestorm not listed.

Xhefri...???

LOL, a prototype would not be listed. :D I did have people at Fender look at picts of it and it is thought to be just that. I have no reason to even think about having a body shop paint one of these. I might be in CO around Oct. I could bring the guitar or body with me and have your scrutinizing eye check it out. Honestly, you would think I would have a little credibility since I have owned a lot of Strat Plus' and that I would know a fake from a real Fender finished guitar. BTW I just picked up a Firestorm Tele (91 issue) with a maple neck. While the one you own and this one have some differences, there are a lot of similarities. My take is some of these were either early test runs or proto-types. But I guess either way you will see me with evil intent, a liar, one who is a bootlegging fraud.

Hey joseph175, I have never seen a name like this that would come from Fender. Most likely someone wanted to put their signature there either to secretly personalize it or to prove ownership it it was stolen. Love that color BTW. I have the color list you gave too, thanks though. I think I have finally picked up nearly every year that Fender provided color lists for the Plus. Thanks for sharing. On the road again this summer so my time on the Forum has been limited.

Thanks for the reply Xhefri.

I thought you would have probably seen that 1988 list.

As for the "R. Rhoton" stamp in my 1988 Torino Red Standard, it is weird but it was definitely done in the factory. I bought the guitar from the original owner and all he had done to the guitar during his ownership is change (poorly) 2 strings. A proverbial under-the-bedder. I was definitely the first to lift the lid, there is even specks of polish on top of the stamp.

I googled it a few years ago and came up with nothing, thus my question to you, but just now I've done it again and turned up a 1988 Plus in Japan with the same stamp;

http://www.h5.dion.ne.jp/~soundfrk/GUITAR/FENDER_ST_PLUS/FENDER_ST_PLUS.html

Anyway I was just curious, nothing super special about it, and whoever R Rhoton was he mustn't have worked there long if you haven't seen it in all the guitars you've owned.

Thanks again.

This is really interesting. I have never seen a fancy stamp/decal name under the hood like that from Fender. I have seen the rubber stamp of the finishers name in the neck socket. Unfortunately most people at Fender know/remember much about what all happened back in the 80s - early 90s and computer records never started being used till early/mid 90s. I even emailed John Page to see if he remembered who the finisher was who did the controversial Firestorm (Icestorm) finishes produced around 1989-1991. He gave me the same answer that I have found when asking other questions about things that happened around that era:

"Hi Jeff, I'm afraid I can't recall, sorry. Too many years have gone by. Good luck with your quest for information! Cheers, John."

If anyone would know anything about what happened at Fender in that time it would be John Page. So hope you find something about this name. Very unusual.

I look forward to us meeting. Would you bring your red guitar from that locked csi thread? I would love to get a photo of the both of us together with our guitars.

Have you looked at google images lately?

Wow thanks! This will help my website get more hits. I do not have the red FS Strat any more as I sold it to a friend who loves it. I did mention i have a 1991 FS Tele i just picked up. I would post picts but am on the road again just north of San Francisco. We will get back next Monday or Tuesday. Then again, i thought if i post some it might cause a Tormenta de fuego!

I went camping last weekend. At dusk one night, I swore I saw Bigfoot running through the brush carrying a Bahama Green Stratocaster!

 my brother was attacked while sleeping in his trailer one night by a Bigfoot. He heard a grunting sound outside and with every grunt, the whole trailer moved. The next morning he came running to our camp and told what happened. We decided to investigate. Sure enough there was a Bigfoot track!!! It was about 15 inches across! Only problem was, it was round and looked like a pie. Down in the meadow was saw a big Hereford-angus cross BULL! Guess he had an itch that needed attending too that night!

Ya and right when I thought the troll (James Willard, aka Greenheart, now known as radioamp), was just starting to be civilized he is starting up with the pictures and rhetoric again. BTW, I just returned back from one week on the road, so not much time for the Forum.

Why is your csi thread about this finish locked?

Here we go again

This was certainly a good thread about a rare color, and now another firestorm bash
Where is the pleasure in tormenting this guy? Give it a rest already.
