Writing from a poor Internet connection in Mexico.....Regarding the last post, it was verified in this thread that for sure Bahama Green does exsist and even we discussed the fender code used on there sales brochure. The color of the guitar posted with the bit off white balance looks like the other rare color called Turquoise Blue. You can go to my website and see a nice sample of it there on the Strat Plus page.... Nice guitar by the way...

Thanks man , I have a sunburst one too. The guitar even "live" looks a little more blue or green in any little light change . Plays and sounds amazing. My sunburst one is a gem as well. I have a later translucent blue on that is a sweet guitar as well . I'll take some shots and send them out. I was on your site nice work and great info. Have any idea how many they made in Bahama Green? I remember the salesman saying Fender said they only shot up 25 strat plus deluxe in that color . Not sure how true that is

Big difference . My Bahama Green takes on so many shades of blue and green sometimes.. Image

My other 2 girls. All 3 pluses play and sound fantastic. Some of the nicest Strats ever made in my opinion.

Hi, just registered, so I'm not sure if this is still an open topic. Bahama Green may be hard to find, but it's for real. I have a Bahama Green Stratocaster that I ordered from Melody Music in Denver. I've done quite a bit of work on this guitar, but the body is original, and it it is definitely Bahama Green. I worked in the store and swapped the original maple neck for a rosewood one that was on one the other Strats we got that day. Anyway, I'll get back on here later a post some pics. Bahama Green is bluer than Foam Green, and darker than Taos Turquoise. I love the color, and have gigged and recorded with it since I got it in '89. I wanted to get it closer to the tonality of the original '57 Stratocaster I've had since 1969, so I worked on the bridge and pickups. It currently has a real '64 neck, Fralin pickups, one-layer mother of toilet seat pickgaurd an modified bridge. I found a steel trem block at a music store that had the Strat Plus string spacing, and modified a set of vintage repro saddles to fit the offset length screws on the original two-point bridge plate. My efforts did bring it closer to the tone I was seeking. Great guitar! It has been my gigging choice for almost 23 years. Here's a link to some shots of those mods:

I don't see an item 17. Do you mean item 71? If so, that's Candy Green, which I've only seen on the Clapton Strat.

Does your Strat have the wood grain visible on the surface of the finish? This is hard to describe, but it is due to the curing process, sometimes referred to as "paint sink". My Bahama Green '88 Strat Plus does have this look; I can see the rays and raised grain characteristics of the Alder body on the surface of the paint quite clearly. I don't recall seeing poly finishes do this. I wonder if the base/color coats could be lacquer? I'm sure it is a poly clear coat. i think Fender stopped spraying lacquer in the early-mid '80's due to California environmental legislation, but I don't know the exact date.

All of the Strat Plus series were shot with Poly. I think over the years they changed sealers which had different affects on the finish. I have owned, and currently own, several early Plus' where, when you turn them so the light reflects off the finish, you can see not only the wood grain but even the seams where the body was laminated together. It is most commonly called "finish shrinking."

Also the clear coats on many of these finishes were sensitive to UV which cause them to yellow and has cause identifying some of the colors a real problem. On some of these colors, especially between 87-97, you can pull off the pickguard and see a dramatic color difference between the exposed and unexposed finishes.

Thanks or the fast reply! Mine is as you described; under the pickgaurd is slightly lighter than the rest of the body. I have done quite a few outdoor shows since getting this guitar, and am surprised it isn't worse. The original pickgaurd is like that as well, with the area under the heel extension and under the knobs still white while the rest is a bit yellowed.
It's nice that they didn't pile the paint on as thick as they did in some eras. It's no "thin skin" finish, but it isn't like the "thick skin" 70's finishes. I love the color; it's really grown on me over the years. I even found a pair of high-top All Stars to go with it:

Cool, you have an 88 62 Reissue? They are very well made guitars and the reissue were some of the very first guitars to roll out from Fender after the CBS sale in 85. When the Corona plant was started up, only the Vintage Reissue Stratocaster models were produced between late 1985 onward. And matching seekers too. Are they the 88 models? How did you know with you have Bahama Green and not Sea Foam Green? Sometimes it is hard to tell from the yellowing of the clear and the color hue of a picture!

Here's a link to the pictures:
http://s1136.photobucket.com/albums/n48 ... us%20Mods/
and the thread detailing the history and modifications is listed on this forum as:
In Search Of: Tone. Or, Strat plus mods
in "stratocaster guitars". Sorry, I don't know how to do a link to it in this forum.
It's not an '88 '62 reissue, it's an '88 Strat Plus, with a '64 neck. I should've bought more than one pair of the shoes; found them at TJ Maxx for $20...but you can design and order shoes in lots of cool colors on their site, Converse.com, and they still have the turquoise.

I know this is sort of an old thread, it's not an urban legend...

I also have a Bahama Green Strat Plus. Mine's from 1987 (Serial E475140). Here's a crappy iPhone picture of it - color of the photo might be a little off but if anyone's interested, I'll post more pics later.

I love this guitar - played it all through the 90s in a Boston band called fez henry.

Hi guys,

It's been quite a while since i've looked into this bahama green topic. I can say I do have one, and a friend of mine does have one too.
Here's my story: I live in France and when I was 14 (some 23 y ago) I went to the most decent shop in Paris to buy a brand new fender Strat plus. By the time there were a lot of sunburst, but when I saw the Bahama green (I thought it was surf green) i fell in love with it.
I still have it, it plays wonderful and is completely original minus the tone and volume fender knob (if anyone has 88 spares, i'd buy them ;) ).
The fun thing is that the little shop I bought it from was a small unsuccesful luthier that was making steel and rusty guitars... I'm sure you've heard of him as he now makes guitars for rich and famous people: James Trussart.

The S/N is 901750. I'll take a pic and upload it later.

Best to all of you guys.

J
