I am in the market for a tube amp.

I have pretty much settled on a Blues Jr., however I saw some good reviews on the Peavey Valveking. The idea of a two channel 50W amp at less than $500 is at least appealing. I was wondering if it is too good to be true?

Thoughts?

How much weight should I give to a two channel amp vs one channel?

I can highly recommend the BJ but I also have to agree that the Windsor studio has a VERY impressive spec list for the price. Another thing I discovered AFTER I bought my BJ is that (here in Australia at least) I could get a Vox AC15 for almost the same price! Might be another one to consider?

An AC15 is almost twice the price of a Blues Jr. around here.I recently bought a Blues Jr. and find it to be a great little amp.Having said that Peavey amps are also great amps and well worth looking into and for the money much better than a lot of amps in their price range, plus they are practically bulletproof.

This is a very important point. It will give you control over clean and distortion with the click of a footswitch. I used Marshall 800's for years. These are a single channel amp which worked very well, however, you must use your guitar's volume control to vary your level of distortion. Two channels are much more practical and handy. If I were to purchase a Marshall again I would certainly aim for one of their channel switching models.

There are also amps that have two channels, each with their own volume but there is also a master volume. This type allows you to set the contrast between channels and then set the overall volume of your amp. Once again very handy indeed.

When choosing a tube amp you should also consider what type of tubes the manufacturer has chosen to install in the amp. If it is tubed with 6L6, 6V6 type power tubes it will give you a lighter more Fender-ish tone. If it is equipped with EL34's it will behave more like a Marshall with a darker tone.

You know the Blues Jr. is going to win because you are on Fender forum!!!! There are many on here that it is all about name. Same as if you where on one of the many other manufacture forums. Me I could cares less good is good no matter who makes it. Also like to think all the amps I have repaired taught me a thing or two. Windsor Studio

Yea I figured as much. Damn this hobby! It reminds of going out to eat at $@!&#* Barrell at 5pm.
1. Do I order off the breakfast menu or dinner menu?
Dinner menu it is:
Now the choices are even tougher. Why do I have to choose just three sides? What if I want steak fires, okra, dumplings AND cheesey hash browns with my meatloaf? What if I want chicken fried steak instead of meatloaf? Crap I can't decide, let me look at the breakfast menu again. Hey what is that guy over there having? That looks good too!

What I do know is, just like at $@!&#* Barrell, once I decide I will probably love it.

Peavey have consistently made good sounding reliable amps. I'd look there or to the vintage modified range.

Although I agree with my brother in arms CV,I also would look at some amps that are not on your list. :? Too many other ones that I believe are better but I'll stick to your list.

The Peavey Classic 30 would be second on your list! :)

i say go with the blues junior.

i got my blues junior for christmas and it was love at first strum. this amp delivers great tone. its size is also very appealing because it is not to big and the volume is great for bedroom playing. that being said it is also a great amp for small gigs, making it vary versitle. so of course i think you should buy the blues junior!

good luck with what amp you choose.
