Hi,

My name is Aryanto, I'm from Indonesia and glad to join the Strat family :D .. I've just bought an MIM Strat. I put the 0.11/0.13/0.20/0.30/0.42/0.52 strings and it seems like the bridge springs (3 springs) are not strong enough to keep the bridge from being pulled off by the strings!! I have to bring the tuning down to C# tuning because of this... :(

Would somebody please advise me to tackle this problem??

Thanks in advance.

Aryanto

You'll either need to adjust the springs or add more springs.

Assuming you now are using heavier strings than before, you have created more pull on the bridge and need to balance it by increasing the spring tension.

Take the back plate off the guitar, and use a screwdriver to increase the spring tension. On the opposite end of the springs from the bridge, is the "claw", and the claw is attached to the body with two screws. Turn the screws clockwise (further into the body) to create more tension on the springs.

If you find that the screws are beginning to turn too hard, then you probably need to add two more springs. Once you've added the springs, turn the claw screw in or out until your bridge rests the way you like it.

I would encourage you to learn more about genera Strat setup. You won't regret it. Search this site for information, or just google it.

+1...siamese pretty much hit it right on the nose there. If you're going from .009's to .011's, you're probably going to need a full setup too...the extra spring(s) and claw adjustment are a good start but I'd be willing to bet your intonation is going to be off and it's even possible the nut may need just a wee bit of filing as well. In addition to searching this site and the internet, if you look on Youtube, there's some pretty good info on setting up Strats...if you're new to all of this, it's well worth watching.

Good Luck,
Jim

Welcome to the Forum.

Your guitar just needs a complete setup.

Like the others said, you will need to adjust the claw to bring the bridge back down. Since you appear to have changed from 9s to 11s on your strings, you probably need to get a complete setup too. You will be much happier with the guitar after the setup! It will be MUCH easier to play. Have Fun with your new Strat!

Welcome Aryanto - You'll find some useful info here in the Strat setp guide: http://www.fender.com/support/stratocas ... _guide.php

To a forum moderator - Can the Strat setup guide or a link to it be made a sticky at the top of the page please? The same Strat bridge question gets asked here every few days.
