Find a strat plus made after 1993. IMO the best strat Fender ever made...I prefer pre 1993 but if you must have the LSR, it became standard on that model mid 1993.

I want a brand new strat.
I have no idea how much or if I can order a 2010 Ash strat with an LSR.
I'm sure with enough money anything is possible,

so what I am asking is, would it better more economical to buy the strat and then have someone put an LSR on ?

I think a guitar shop charges about $60 to put one on. If that helps any.

It seems the ONLY production guitar Fender makes that comes stock with an LSR nut is the Jeff Beck signature Strat. Look here: http://www.fender.com/products/search.p ... 0119600857

Or get any other regular production Strat and have a luthier replace the stock nut with an LSR. Otherwise you can pay $$$$$$$ the Fender Custom Shop to do a one off Strat with an LSR.

This is just my opinion as always, but personally I really don't think the LSR's are really worth that much hoo-ha. I put one on my '96 MIM and I honestly wish I hadn't of done it. It doesn't really hurt anything but I really don't think they're that much better than a decent quality traditional nut either. I now have two MIM's one with and one without and as far as things like tuning stability and such go, the LSR is not really that big of a deal at all.

So with that, I'd really say don't sweat the LSR issue...just find the guitar you really want and if it has it, fine, if not, don't worry about it.

Just my $.02 worth,
Jim

+1 Purposely chose a Telecaster without it after having one in my Am Dlx Strat.

Thanks for pointing that out. I retract my comment on the Jeff Beck being the ONLY current Strat with a stock LSR.

hey Crane - You could always get an ash Strat and sell the neck, then buy an LSR equipped neck off of ebay. There are always guys taking apart brand new Fenders and selling the parts on ebay.

Got to get this off my chest though. Personally, I think a well cut and lubed traditional nut has superior tone over an LSR. If you're looking for tuning stability while using the trem arm a lot, then locking tuners might be the ticket.

Jeff's personal guitar employs the older Wilkinson nut. The Custom Artist JBs feature the LSR.

All Plus guitars made after that date sported "spaghetti" decals on their headstocks and Schaller staggered tuning machines.
