Has anybody come across this custom US based builder http://www.haywirecustomguitars.com/ ?
I looked at some of his guitars online, especially his Fender Strats and they're all customized guitars and it seems he has many good reviews... Also how can customizing Fender guitars this way (I notice his vintage Fender necks all have the "Haywire" logo on them rather than Fender) be allowed by Fender??

Strictly speaking these are not "Fender" guitars, they are "Fender Style" guitars. They are most likely completely made by Haywire Customs, they just use the Fender body shape (which is no longer copyrighted) in the design of their guitars. I believe that the only thing Fender retains the copyright on is their Logo and possibly their headstock shape (I'm not sure of this last bit). So the fact that it says Haywire Customs on the headstock instead of Fender is actually a requirement.

Haywire Eric Clapton Special (Blackie)

The names of the guitar and player are instantly recognizable. This tribute to the legend features a AAA maple soft V-shaped neck with 22 medium 6105 Dunlop frets and finished off in vintage style satin nitro. The pickups are Fender Vintage Noiseless in all positions, with a master TBX tone control which gives up to 25db of active mid boost. The bridge is a "blocked" American Vintage Synchronized Tremolo. Machine heads are Fender Kluson Vintage Style. As with all Haywire Custom Guitars, Blackie comes expertly set-up and gig-ready.

Just replace the stock 3-ply 11-hole with a 1-ply 8-hole.

Not all 8-hole pickguards are single-layered. Fender also made 3-layer 8-hole pickguards (Eric Johnson RW), as well as single-layer 11-hole ones (Jimmie Vaughn Tex-Mex, some older American Deluxes).

This rare Candy Apple Red Clapton Strat (Master Built by Jay W. Black) has a 3-ply 8-hole white moto pickguard. It also sports a matching headstock and gold hardware.
