Question...my wife has been looking at youtube again  and has seen prince running around on stage with his guitar and she SWEARS she cant see the cord anywhere :? she said he runs all over the stage, in back of the stage, all over the place...she was almost hysterical about it. I took a look myself and there are performances from the 80's right up until his rock & roll hall of fame version of while my guitar gently weeps...there is no cord.....so can you all help me google some performances and tell me where the hell is the guitar cord :?

Either he's not actually playing guitar :P or he's using a wireless transmitter. My cousin has one, he really likes it.

Yes there were, but were more bulky than they are now. I used to have one back in the late 80's when I thought I was going to be a Rock Star. I soon got rid of it because I just did not need another toy to weigh me down when moving from place to place. Plus I do not move around all that much when I play.

Wireless transmitters for guitars first appeared in the late 70s,at least that's when the music stores around here began bringing them in.I'm not sure if Prince had it done but some guitarists had their guitars built with transmitters installed inside them.

They go back even further.

I've seen ads for them in old guitar magazines.
So it depends on you line of demarcation for the late 70's.

It's been around a while. A Micro Frets guitar was in my GP mag and this one is similar
