I have a Blue Burst Ultra that is possibly the best looking guitar I own. My ax is mint but that one looks NOS. You made a decent offer and might be able to grab it for $300 more. I will assure you that you will not be disappointed as they are great guitars and the quality is top shelf. There is just something strange about them in the fact that you just dont see many pop up, and you would definitely expect them to sell for a lot more than they usually do, though most of the ones on the bay have been modded. Either everyone has their guitar under the bed and is just waiting for them to jump or Xhefri our master Guru on the series owns 80% of them.lol

There's a nice blue one on ebay now. Think it was a 3 day auction though, so should be about to end I think.
Think the guy had a starting bid of $1300 and a buy it now of like $1599.

Sometimes i wonder if these pushed too close to the Custom Shop models? So they came out with the DX series in 99 and then had the CS models use the flame tops for a higher price....????

Good point, though at the time that they were discontinued, CS were dabbling in time machine series which is another kettle of fish altogether. They did however represent excellent value over the CS taking the specs into consideration.

The next model up from Ultra was probably the CS set-neck strat below...
Yet still they dont make FMT or QMT anymore- certain options like a set-neck for example and ebony board reqiure a CS masterbuilder to make it. I wish they still made cool stuff like this team-built, it seems that the majority of their work is either heavy relic, relic or NOS.

Note the set-neck join:

Image - I love this guitar- but it needed a pickguard in my opinion :?

Love those neck set Strat Ultra guitars! I have a new one done in a rare Jeff Beck Midnight Purple with Black/Red/Black pickguard (Scratch plate or you Auzzies and Kiwis and UKers) I will try to post it tomorrow. Like Beck Strat but better and with a Rosewood Plus Neck.... Pretty rare color in a Plus!

Tomorrow? Xehfri why must we wait for tomorrow? Y'all've(southern slang "you all have") got me so worked up over these Ultras that I'm feeling gas pains again.

Seriously I'd love to see a picture of that purple Ultra.

This is a Set-Neck Strat without the Floyd Rose Original tremolo and the Lace Ultra pickup layout and wiring.

This one used an American Deluxe tremolo and an HSS array of two Texas Special single-coils in the neck and the middle and a Seymour Duncan Trembucker humbucking pickup in the bridge.

here are a couple picts I took in hast today. Need to re-shoot these for my website as the color did not come out very well. This is a 1997 Midnight Purple Strat Plus. Very rare color for a Plus and not listed as a color sold in the Plus Series. it was used on the Jeff Beck Strats of this same vintage and some of the American Deluxes. This has been custom wired just like an Ultra. Sorry about the size of the picts!
