Hi, I'm new to the Forum and look forward to 'all things Fender'. I've been playing for about 12 years or so and am a 'Fender Guy' all the way. I remember the first time I sat in a music store holding a Strat for the first time, sitting in front of a Fender amp and hearing 'that sound'!!! I've never gotten over it!

I've been on a 'gear journey' for a long time and due to the 'economy' and personal financial issues; I'm a one guitar owner now. Guess which kind? Yep, a Strat. I have a 07 MIM Strat HSS and a new Blues Jr amp. I use a Route 66 Comp\OD and H20 for effects and that's it!

My question is about the Strat. Can someone provide a link to the basic information on my particular guitar? I want to know the 'specs' on the pickups and neck profile, etc.... I can't seem to locate it on the Fender site.

The guitar is a great guitar! I've owned several American Series over the years and wished I still had them all. This one will certainly fill the need for the 'Fender Sound'.

Thanks!

Welcome.

Your questions are basically over stuff that there is nothing really singular about and consequently, you won't find a whole lot of specifics on. The single coil pickups are your 'garden variety' imported ones with ceramic magnets in the high 5K to low 6K ohms range with the bridge pickup being of the same genre but around the 9K ohms range with an alnico magnet. The neck is essentially the shape of a mid '60s variety but with a 9.5" radius and the body is of at least three but probably five pieces of end to end alder.

All of the current "Standard" specs apply to your '07, except you will not have these features which were intriduced in (I believe) 2009:

- a tinted neck
- parchment pickguard and control knobs
- a ’70s-style logo (personally, I like the earlier logo much better anyway)

Thanks for the responses thus far. I guess the 'Garden Variety' aspect of the pickups that come stock are the reason I always do a pickup change when I get a new Strat. Just out of curiosity, what kind do you all recommend given my type of music that I like to play (Rock, Classic Rock & Blues)?

I was thinking of Seymour Duncan SSL-1's in the Neck and Middle with a Pearly Gates Plus in the Bridge.

Your welcome.

If you use light gauge strings, SSL-2s would be a better choice (same as the SSL-1s but with even polepieces) or your G string is going to be perceived as exceptionally loud and your B and possibly high E perceived as exceptionally weak.

FYI: Contrary to popular belief, the Pearly Gates Plus is closest to a Duncan 59. Fender just liked the name, "Pearly Gates" and that's how that pickup got its name so bear this in mind.

If you want to stick with Duncan full sized HBs, I, after literally trying all of them personally like the Custom best in the bridge position for pretty much any guitar followed by the Custom Custom if the guitar may be too bright for a Custom (as may be in your case). The difference between the two is literally and only the magnet strength. The Custom has an Alnico V whereas the Custom Custom has an Alnico II. As a point of reference, the SSL 2s have Alnico IIIs.

YMMV.

Thanks for the detailed information. I use 9-42's (Ernie Ball) and always wondered why those strings sounded louder when using various pickups before. I'll check into the SSL2's.

Thanks

Glad to help. Incidentally, I use the same Ernie Ball set as you and I use SSL-2s in my middle and neck positions as well.

I went out and bought, late last Fall, the DiMarzio Area Pickgaurd that comes complete with pups and electronics. With coupons and all it was just over $200 for the whole setup. And a drop in place replacement for my SSH setup that came with my 09 MIM Strat. Except for one screw hole I had to drill. Quiet a difference in sound!! I'm still playing with pup height to tune it in just right. May swap the neck and mid around to see how that sounds too.

I still have the original pg in case I ever want to go back or end up selling the guitar to upgrade. But I really love the feel and sound of it so probably never will!!!
